Purchased iPhone 5 from Apple, APN settings missing.

Hi, I purchased my iPhone (5, 32gb) from Apple and since I have switched from my iphone 4, a feature that my carrier provides no longer works. I have called their tech support multile times, and every time I get the same response "we can only change the APN settings on the phones we provide, because you bought it from Apple, you will have to manually input them". Howeverm the option to input APN settings isn't on my phone. This issue has been really frustrating because every forum says that an unlocked phone purchased directly from Apple should have this option.
