I am trying to synch photos from my iphone to my Mac, and I'm getting this message: "photo library needs to be upgraded to work w/this version of iPhoto. Your photo lib. won't be readable by prev. versions of iPhoto after the upgrade."  If I upgrade, will I still be able to view my old photos on my computer?

Yes, as long as you don't later downgrade iPhoto. Back up the library first.

    Yes

Unless you have two different computers with different versions of Iphoto accessing the library

The message means exactly what it says - After the upgrade previous versionts of iPhoto can not access the upgraded iPhoto library - obviuously if you have one and only one version of iPhoto then you have nothing to worry about
