Jan 24, 2013 7:41 AM in response to gtrina69by varjak paw,If you want it to work as a phone, yes, you must have a SIM, valid for the carrier you wish to use (and to which the iPhone is locked, if it is locked as many are). If you just want to use the iPhone as an iPod touch, then as long as the phone has been and remains activated, a SIM will not be necessary.
