My Mail has stopped working..

All of a sudden my Mail has stopped working...I cannot send or receive mail and one particular email has gone into the 'recovered message' folder on my mac at least 80 times..I am using a Macbook Pro.  My mail is working fine on my iphone so I know it is not the settings.  Any help is greatly appreciated

    Okay, give me one second and I'll help you out and show you what to do. But first what kind of mail account do you have, Gmail? yahoo? Hotmail? ETC.

    First of all, open up the mail app on your Mac. In the top menu bar click on mail then move down to the second option labeled preferences. They should bring up a small dialog box with things like general accounts junk mail signatures and many other things. Move over to the tab that is labeled accounts. Whichever account you're trying to access is the one you need to select, and in the bottom left corner there is a minus sign. So when you select that account, click on that minus sign to remove the account. Then in the bottom left click on the +. it will ask you to fill out your full name email address and password as would an iPhone or an iPad. Fill out that very short form of your email and password. Click the next button. It will ask you if you would like to set up notes and other things. set it up the way you want. Then click create. Your account should have been re-added, and it should've reconnected to the SMTP servers. This is basically a route address so that a third party applications such as this Mac mail application can't connect to the Internet connect to your Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail or anything else. It just basically re-verifies it. After this, it should be all set up and ready to go.
