i have experienced that few times with the adapter without the grounding. I recommend to use a extension cord for the charger with the grounding. Hope it helps.

Thanks. Doesn't seem to have helped, and this morning I have noticed that some of the erratic linkages occur even when I am nowhere near the trackpad.
I will get a plastic cover for the trackpad and see if this helps.

1. Adjust the "Double click" speed.
System Preferences > Accessibility > Mouse & Trackpad > Double click speed:
2. Advice from Apple
3. Try to turn off any nearby Bluetooth device.
4. If you wish, you can take the MBP to the Apple store to have it checked out.

Thanks! Your tip helped my problem. I was panicking when it got jittery all of the sudden but I unplugged mine and it's now working properly.

This may not be the answer to your specific case, as I believe static alone is often the cause of this problem. However, I just discovered something that is the frequent cause of my erratic, jumpy cursor with the trackpad. I have two cats, and all it takes is one cat hair on that pad -- whether it's under my finger or not. Sometimes they are so fine that they can hardly be spotted. Perhaps that is connected to the static issue, but I have learned that completely wiping the trackpad to remove any and all hair really improves the function. It's almost guaranteed if a hair lands on it again, it will go back to its crazy behavior, so I am rather convinced this is the culprit in my case.

Thanks for various answers. I took the computer to Apple Store and they found that the trackpad was stuck --- replaced and therefore corrected.
