You should have read the last few pages of this thread as well as the first few pages... You'll probably need to re-sync your music.

So , I've been watching my other a bit closer, and ran a couple quick syncs to see what I get.
First I plugged in phone,
other @ 4.58g
photo @ 1.21G
App @ 572mb
Then I hit sync,
other @ 4.59g
photo @ 1.21G
App @ 572mb
Virtually the same although it went up a point in other for syncing.
Then I went to apps section and clicked remove for facebook, just to see if that was an issue;
Other @ 4.81
photo @ 1.21
App @ 342
Music @ 5.82
So deleting facebook made my other go up, apps decline (obviously) and made my music decline??
I then added it back;
Other @ 4.6
App @ 372
So adding it back cleared out some of the fb info as the overall apss is smaller, but the other still grew another point from original sync.
So then I went into my computer/iphone/internal memory, and pulled videos off by slecting, right click and cut. The total of which was 429.89 for 7 short videos.
other @ 4.72
photo @ 805mb,
App @ 372
Music @ 5.91
I'm no computer whiz but sure seems like every video I delete is deleted from camera roll but not from the phone itself even though it's no where to be found, I'm guessing the trash can is filling up but there's no button for emptying it....
Frustrated I be!!
I should add that my other has been growing more and more since I've been actively trying to free up space, i.e deleting tons of photos, old texts emails etc... I think it was at 2.2 when I started trying to figure this out.

You might try deleting Facebook, then syncing. Likewise for videos.

so I decided to delete fb on phone then re-sync like you suggested, other went up to 4.74. In other words, if I delete things my other grows. I started this morning with 4.58 in other and now am up to 4.74 after removing an app twice and removing 430mb of videos. I tried deleting my ebay app too just to see, and other went up to 4.76...
I would do the restore as new but I keep thinking they hopefully will have a fix soon, I still have 1.8 gig free and if need be can ditch music. I just don't want to start over with my camera roll and the numbers associated with them.

I hope you are not keeping photos in your camera roll. They should be transferred to your computer on a regular basis and deleted from the camera roll. If you want them on the phone then sync them back to the Photos app, or to a 3rd party photo album app (because the built in one is rather primitive).

As of this morning I have ~230 on the camera roll, once they go to photo stream I usually pull them out of that folder and put where they belong, then delete off phone. Having a newborn and a two year old, it's hard to keep up on having a clean camera roll...
I just deleted 160 pics off of camera roll and photo stream and the other jumped up a point again...

I took a video of what is in "other" space.
Watch this and read the description. You'll understand why deleting pics and videos won't help!

Gotta wonder if there is a way to delete those files from the backup, and then restore from the "fixed" backup.
With this proof that Other is not always application data, but in fact a flaw with the way iOS deals with its trashcan or whatever its called on the phone, this needs reported to Apple so this bug can finally go away.
I found videos and pictures from last summer that I know have been imported and deleted from the phone way back from mid summer. I'm known for constantly deleting iMessage threads, so I shouldn't be able to find thumbnails from a game of Emoji Conenct 4 a friend of mine and I played from late last year still buried in the iOS backup and eating up precious space.

Can't figure out where whom to send this vid.

People, post a feedback request for apple to solve that.
They dont read this forum, and it will help force them to solve things.
How do I delete all pictires from campera roll?
I have 2000 of them (4 kids...).
I hate syncing. Too co,plicated...

Wow. I tried the same thing that you did in your video and found the same issue! TONS of big files in my backup that play as videos if I add .mp4 to the file name. And like with your situation, lots of those files are duplicates too.
I'm going to try reporting this to Apple. Hopefully they will pay attention! I have a 16GB phone with 5.9GB of "Other." I'm constantly running out of space and have barely any apps installed.

Does anyone know how to email Apple Support? I feel like the only option is to call a support person or go to the Apple store and I think it might be more effective if a lot of us email Apple instead.
This is the exact problem that I think we should all be reporting:
This video shows that "Other" data is full of old videos and who knows what else that you've tried to delete but that never get deleted! This is a huge bug that renders your iphone useless over time!

Have you (and the others noticing this) yet arrived at the conclusion that the videos and photos you're seeing are in fact videos and photos that you've sent/received over iMessages?
Currently Being ModeratedJan 27, 2013 7:47 AM (in response to mrMichail)
See my post on macrumors about this and what I found those files to be..
I think I also posted in this thread to a short while back about it.
