But you dont have to clear your account anyway. You could just deactivate it or even leave it activated. Just set up a new POP Account.

I tried that, I can't find a way of adding a new POP account when the same email account is already set up with IMAP. If you know different please tell me tomorrow.

Okay, I am sorry, you have to deactivate the old account, you can't keep it activated. But why don't you just find out yourself like I did right now in seconds? BTW: The subject of this thread is something different. Maybee you and Late Adopter should go posting here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19436326#19436326

    Csound1,

    I appreciate the suggestion.

But, I tried that twice, and once you enter yahoo it auto-defaults to downloading IMAP configuration.  Tried doing it the way you suggested twice.

Please try it yourself.  I am not being flippant, there's the slight possiblity that even after trying it twice - user error.

I use the method myself regularly, it works fine with Yahoo and others.

    Everic,

Do you know with 100% certainty that my "On My Mac" Mailbox/Archives will not disappear when I clear the account?  I have three years worth of emails in Apple Mail under the "On My Mac" folder.  I am going to back up on Time Machine, either way, but if I know they aren't going anywhere when I turn off the Yahoo account it would be helpful.

Always back up, all the time, if you are doing it just because of this you're already making mistakes.

I think the step you are missing is that you DON'T select the yahoo account option, you select "other" and you can put in any pop or imap account. Then you just need the correct parameters from yahoo to access the account. I think someone posted this earlier.

Not on the systems that I am taking care of (all 10.8.2). I have to create yahoo pop accounts in mail.app.

No you don't, it is fully supported, you are just doing it wrong.

Yes I know what you mean. But this does not work. If you choose to create a new mail accoutn afterwords you can only use the wizzard. You can not even change ports or anything else of a mail account. If you want to set up a mail account manually you have to do in mail.app.

You screenshot only proofs that you are not using a yahoo mail account. If you would you could read mail instead of messages.

I'm sorry but that is wrong, I can add any account I want at any time using the Mail, Contacts and Calendars utility found at System Preferences>Mail, Contacts and Calendars. I can add my yahoo account as a POP, Imap or both (2 accounts)

If you are doing this correctly then there is a more serious issue with your Mac, I would find out what it is, then fix it.

This is on 3 machines, all running 10.8.2, 2 MBP's and an iMac.

This doesn't work for me either.

See screenshot below. Is this what you see?

I got here via System Preferences>Mail, Contacts and Calendars>add other account.

    Csound1,

Why would two people on this forum argue with you about having tried it multiple times?  We're seeking solutions, not trying to argue with you or Apple.

But, since you're so helpful with questions, I have a few below I am sure you can answer.

And, if this worked - and didn't go back to "wizard" or force the IMAP settings back again, which has been my experience, others experience and Everic's experience - why would:

    1. I have spent 3 hours on a phone with Apple?

    2. I have spent 3 hours on a phone with Apple and have them never even try to remedy this in this manner?

    3. Apple have told me flatly that POP won't work now?

    4. Why would this not work for me after trying it twice?

    4. Why would each call end with Apple refering me to Yahoo?

    5. Why would there be many other threads listing the technical limitations of Mail using IMAP and how Apple hasn't surmounted these issues yet?

    6. Why are so many other users having the same problems, for the same reasons, and those same users not be able to revert back to POP.

    6. Finally, why would ALL THREE techs on TWO DIFFERENT CALLS tell me (in reference to both not being able to go back to POP as well as disappearing emails) that this "the first time I have seen this issue"?  These folks even went to check with other techs to only come back and say, again - "no one has seen this"?  It's plainly here on their Apple support site, it's all over the internet...

Select the first option, Add A Mail Account, hit create and fill in the details, this is a simple procedure.

    It looks like this:

It would be helpful if you gave us the POP settings, right?

  • 193. Re: MAC Mail not saving all sent items

This is exactly what I did. After clicking create, adding details in the new box then clicking create, the box simply dissappears and nothing hapens. This is for the btinternet account you can see on the lhs. It is currently an IMAP account and I'd like to create a duplicate POP3 account as you describe above. I've tried clicking cmd/create and ctrl/create both of which have the same result.

I don't want to deactivate the account as I'm worried about losing data.
