The process for unlocking an iPhone requires the registered owner to contact their mobile operator and request an unlock and pay the requisite fee around £20.
The mobile operator then contacts Apple to request white listing of the said iPhone.
Apple confirm this is completed back to the mobile company
(This takes anything between 3 days and 2 weeks)
Once the mobile company has received the notification from Apple, they send a text or email to the registered owner inviting them to connect the iphone to their computer using the supplied USB cable and to launch iTunes.
As series of on screen prompts are followed and finally the Congratulations Your iPhone has been unlocked appears
At this point the iPhone is disconnected from the computer and the original network Sim can be removed.
Any network compatible Sim can now be placed in the iPhone.
The original owner should have done ALL this BEFORE sale.
You are stuck with a handset that will ONLY work with a T-Mobile Sim onboard, unless you can get the original owner to co-operate.
And that means THEY have to have access to the phone, to put their sim back onboard.
They then call their mobile operator however there is another security step necessary.
The mobile operator will request confrmation of the iMEi number, and will use locations services to identify the handset and registered subscribers mobile number.
So you can't just make it up (This is to prevent reactivation of stolen handsets !)
We did that this afternoon but because it was new from orange shop two yrs ago, his friend then changed it to Tmobile after that, it all became vey confusing ad she asked what number it was with orange, for gods sake that was two yrs ago and he never kept the orange number, he went straight to Tmobile
We will try it again tomorrow and won't give up unt they get bored with us
Thanks KRJ xx
Errrrh me too !!
My son always does things in haste and rarely thinks about it first
We will ask this friend to ring TMOBILE AGAIN
As this was the last network he was with.
Maybe they will be more helpful this time, especially as I will be close by to listen!!!
I'll be ready to step in if he becomes frustrated with the whole thing
Many thanks again xx
