My hard disk doesn't mount on my desktop when it's plugged in to my Airport Extreme. It mounts fine plugged in to my MBPro, and the disk shows up in the disk section of Airport Utility, but not in Disk Utility. I've tried with and without a powered USB hub. I've tried with two different disks. I reformatted one of them. I've turned power to the airport off and on; same with disks. This used to work, but I haven't used the Airport this way for months. Any thoughts.

If the hard drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or FAT32, try the following:

Click anywhere on the open desktop so that the Finder menus appear at the top of the screen

    Click the Go menu

    Click Network

Double click the AirPort Extreme icon

Double click the folder representing your hard drive to mount it on the desktop

    Alternately, open Macintosh HD

Look for the AirPort Extreme icon under the SHARED heading on the left side of the Finder window

Click on the AirPort Extreme icon

Double click the folder representing the hard drive to mount it on the desktop

If the hard drive is not formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or FAT32, the steps above will not work.

Is there any way to have an encrypted disk mount when it's connected to Airport?

I don't know, haven't tried this, but suspect that you would have had to have made the original copy with drive connected to the AirPort Extreme.
