Q: Connecting macbook pro to TV with HDMI cable

I'm not having any luck connecting my Mac Pro to my LG TV using Kanex HDMI Cable-  Am I missing any other steps besides just connecting to the TV?

    Hey zyriab!

so i'm having the same problem. yes it is connect and the galaxy picture is on the tv. the mouse is also going on, i can get the dock to pop up on the TV, but the internet is still on my computer. I'm trying to hook up the mac pro, 2012 version to the computer to watch movies with the kids. I have the thunderbolt adapter for hdmi, and as far as i know, it should just pop up and work...right???

Are you running the internet full screen?  If so change it so it runs in a window smaller than full screen.  Can you get it on the TV now?

I've had numerous problems getting my mid 2010 MacBook Pro connected to a new Samsung Series 7 TV (Model LN46d630m3fxza).

    I'm running os/x ml (10.8.5).

The following finally works and gives both sound and video from my mbp to the Samsung TV.

belkin mini display to hdmi ($35 at Apple Store).

    any hdmi cable

input to Samsung HDMI/DVI #1 port.

    A couple of notes.

An older mini display port to dvi

    dvi to hdmi converter

    hdmi cable

DID NOT WORK with the Samsung but had worked wiht an older Sony TV but did not pass audio.

There you go.  Ymmv.  I hope this helps someone.

Thanks for this-  I purchased these, but found another solution in the meantime.

The "idiot proof" plug and play is great when it works - unless it doesn't.  Here's what I ended up finding.

My first issue is that like others have mentioned my macbook pro (mid 2012/mountain lion) was getting a blue screen for a few seconds after connecting to a Samsung UN40EH5300 40-Inch 1080p 60Hz LED HDTV  via mini display and HDMI/ethernet cable.  Then it would do absolutely nothing-  the laptop would come back on and the TV would not recognize an HDMI source.  Can't do anything to adjust the displays because the displays are not talking to each other, therefor they don't appear in the display app.

Incidentally a new projector I had just bought (Epson 1761W)  was equally non functional using the same HDMI cable and mini adapter.  After getting another mini display adapter-  both units work as they should with two different HDMI cables- one with and one without ethernet.

So-  even thought I bought the Griffin mini displayprt to HDMI via the Apple store (and wasted a whole day I will never get back) -  apparently it's either defective or incompatible.    This gigaware adapter works perfectly as I said, with both a radio shack HDMI and the one that came with the TV.   This configuration with both cables works equally well with the projector and the TV so it looks like a dud adapter.    I can only hope this saves someone else some time and frustration !

    Hey Zyriab,

I have a Macbook (white version from 2010) and i bought a Maxell HDMI Cable and a Moshi adapter. When i connect the cable to my tv my pc screen goes blue but nothing is happening on my SONY tv. I've already used this cable befor and worked perfectly. Don't understand what's wrong.

When i go to settings and displays, i press the Gather Windows button and a window appears that says SONY TV. I have litterally pressed every button and nothing happens on my TV.

It's weird because i used to have a Kanex HDMI Cable and it worked fine for a while and one day it suddenly stopped working. Same thing is happening with this new cable. Is my pc or tv damaging the cables?

    Can you help?

    Thanks EricaV

I'm having the same issue. Your description is exactly what's going on when I connect using the Dynex mini Displayport to HDMI Adapter. So you got a Gigaware adapter and it resolved your issue? Thank You, I will get one.
