    You are absolutely right.

I had luck and found that hint on the web when I was struggling with creating a yahoo pop account on my wifes machine. Apple is focusing on toys these days. iOS really works great and that's where the money comes from. Who cares about OS X and for example the Mac Pro. This machine is a shame for apple. It allways used to be the ultimate Mac. Today its something very expansive from yesterday.

Forget apple support. They dont give feedback to the developers. If you want to give qualified feedback (I wish you would) go here, select your machine and complain about the mail issue. Please all you english native speakers, go there an describe the problem: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

One more thing: Can you and anybody else confirm the missing mail issue is always according to mails with attachement, more or less larger attachements?

I have to say that I am struggeling with this issue since 10.6. The only reason I went to 10.8 was the hope that with the new look of mail.app maybe this problem would be solved. But it got worse. Unfortunately this is not the only thing that got worse.

If only there would be a real competitor on the market. Apple still delivers the best OS and the best machines for my opinion. And Steve Jobs gone. Thats why they got lazy. But have a look at Nokia and see how fast things can change.

Steve Jobs should be rolling over and moaning:   ""***?!".  You can't handle a fng Mail program guys?  You can't figure out how to patch this?  OUTLOOK is working just great, but Apple Mail is a Fail...?  This is basic stuff, kids..."

Absolutely lamentable behaviour from Apple on this issue - clearly a company struggling to stay on top of the game. Have been using yahoo mail on my web browser for the last year or so, only reliable solution for me short of downloading and using an additional client. I wish there was some way of taking the issue viral to get to their attention. Still holding out hope for a fix soon!

In my case the problem is with all sent emails irrespective of size or attachments.

The only solution I found, if you want to stay with Yahoo IMAP in Apple Mail, is to uncheck the "store sent messages on server" box in mail>preferences>accounts.mailbox behaviours. This keeps sent messages on your Mac, but of course, they are not synced.

I've been doing some experiments and something biazare seems to have happened.

Previously, no messages sent from my Yahoo IMAP account were being saved. To get round the problem I unchecked "store sent messages on server" which worked in that sent messages were saved on my mac.

I've just unchecked "store sent messages on server" and all sent messages now seem to be getting saved, including mail with large attachments.

The only thing of possible relevence I can think I've done is create a duplicate POP account and deactivate it again. It's hard to believe this has made a difference, but coud it?

What you experienced is very logical because mail is not corresponding properly with the server in saving sent mails on the server. Now that you tell mail not to save send mails on the server the problem can not apear anymore. Obvious. Only thing about it: this is not the idea of IMAP. Because now you, Brij011, have your send mails on one computer. I use IMAP because I want my send mails on all computer and devices.

Aren't you being a little harsh on OSX 10.8?

I've never used any other Mac OS but to me using this compared to Windows is like driving a Rolls Royce compared to a Skoda. It isn't perfect, e.g. you often need an extra key stroke or two on the Mac, but overall it is definitely superior in my view.

Yes, there are obviously issues with Apple Mail but you can't use this to put down the whole of Mountain Lion!

As for the Apple tech support guys, have you tried their equivalent at Windows or any other other companies tech support? They are nearly always useless unless you want help with the simple basics that most people with any sense would work out for themselves.

I appreciate all the conversation going back and forth the past few days.  The problem however is not limited to one specific isp/mail host such as yahoo or gmail.  This problem is also not "solved" by switching from IMAP to POP.  Thats just finding a work-around for the real issue. - I'm Glad you've been able to find a solution that fits your needs.

As so many other people before me have posted, however, I need to connect to my mail host via IMAP.  This allows all my mail, both my incomming and sent mail, to be syncronized between multiple devices.  I have used Outlook for Windows for several years. More recently I have used Outlook for Mac.  I have NEVER experienced a "Lost" message.  I love the Mac culture, I love that my wife and even my kids can easily use a Mac. I love the service I recieve when I have a problem. I love that my support call isnt routed to a call center in some village in India.  BUT,  a Mac isn't a business platform.  If Apple is going to get their stock out of the tank they have to start looking at the business client.

Mac mail looks pretty and is easy to use but lacks the functionality and advanced configuration features of Outlook.  Simply put they have a problem with this and NEED to address rather than customers fuddling around in the dark trying to find a work-around.  I still have this issue and NOTHING on the 14 pages of discussion before addresses the fact that when connecting to a mail host through IMAP the random message gets LOST..

I can't see how you've reached this conclusion? I also access my mail through an iPhone, PC and an Android tablet!

Sent mails are now syncing across all these devices wheras they weren't previously.

    Hi Everic,

I think I am one the the original posters on this thread back on page 2.  Yes the problem still exists, and of course its happens when you least expect it to.. Yes. almost always an attachment creates the hiccup... The problem is still unsolved, it's a problem with mail and I've tested this extensively both with my email provider and with apple to no avail.... It's a problem that is not easily duplicated but always is created with the same set of circumstances and ends with the receiver getting the mail but the mail not sticking to your sent folder... It's annoying but, not annoying enough to switch...

It's just one annoyance,  It is SO MUCH better than calling a pc maker with a problem.  Being a "PC" for years I constantly found myself on the phone with tech support,  I'm so happy I switched.

I am also one of the earlier posters on this issue.  The problem isn't solved and no amount of tinkering with the settings is going to fix it at present.

I think it's quite well explained on page 3 of this post, where an an IMAP email provider / host looks into the issue.

Essentially there's a conflict between certain security settings on the IMAP server side and non-standard instructions sent by Apple Mail resulting in the IMAP server thinking it is being hacked and throwing up an error message.

This results in your email actually being sent, but the IMAP server logs an error before it can save the mail to the "Sent Mail" folder, hence the mail on our side appears to dissapear (it never got saved on the server).  This can also happen when moving mail between folders as essentially Apple Mail is trying to "write" to the IMAP server and the server thinks it's being hacked so throws up an error.

This is how I understand it, and I doubt that a fix going to occur anytime soon.

    Regards.

PS I don't think there is that much more to offer on this topic.

That suprises me. How are they on all devices if the sent mail is not saved to the server? Do you use iCloud or anything else for mail synchronistaion between your divices?

I use iCloud on the PC, Mac and phone but not on the android which uses Amazons iCloud. Did you read my email properly? The account is IMAP - I deactivated the POP account.

My point was that IMAP didn't work until I created a duplicate POP account and then deactivated it. I personally don't think this is what fixed it but I have no other explanation. Sequence of events:

    1. Sent emails not saving on Mac with IMAP.

    2. Unchecked "store sent emails on server". Sent emails now being saved on my Mac but not syncing.

    3. Created duplicate POP account.

    4. Deactivated POP acount.

    5. Checked "store sent emails on server". Sent emails now syncing across all devices.

This sounds weird to me. Maybe its because of my english lack. I give up.

It is weird, I agree. But it's probably a Red Herring so don't worry about it.

As for your English, it's a lot better than the second language of nearly all the native English speakers on this forum. Don't give up!
