Q: Updated RAM to 4gb, shows as 2 gb. What's the problem?

I updated my RAM to 4gb in summer 2012. It showed as it being 4gb until a couple months ago when it showed as 2 gb.

What's the problem?

RAM is not seated properly or defective.

It should be quite easy to apply more pressure on the RAM chips. If they are seated properly and still not showing correctly, you could swap the RAM chips to the opposite slots to determine if it is a RAM chip or slot issue. Apple 'How-To" instructions Here
