Q: My iphoto library has disappeared. How do I find it?

Whilst I agree that the above lis is likely to be helpful to some, there seems to be some kind of reluctance to accept that there may be an actual problem here.

There are a lot of people who are losing the library in iphoto and not having it show in time machine either. There's definitely something not right.

Yes, back-up of course, that doesn't really need to be said, but that doesn't solve the problem of why this is happening in the first place. nothing that Steve 626 listed applies to me.

Sure there may be a problem - but no one here can fix it or do anything about it except help their fellow users try to figure it out and work around it

And frankly it is not possible to say that nothing Steve said applies since many of the items he mentioned would not be known by the user and often would not be noticed

Well, I was just trying to help. I know how important these photos are.

As for the backups, what I said does apply because I suggested that folks actually check their backups to verify that the most important things are properly backed up. I think that does apply to you because you are saying that your Time Machine backup doesn't contain the photo files. Also, I recall hearing about an issue that Apple acknowledged in the past whereby the iPhoto Library did not get backed up if it were open during the Time Machine backup (e.g. iPhoto was running at the same time). That is a bug, I would say, although it might be fixed in the later versions of the OS. My college kid has a 170 GB iPhoto Library and while I set her up with Time Machine in her dorm, she has iPhoto open all the time and I worry that she isn't connecting her laptop to the Time Machine disk very often. So when she is home on breaks I make clones of her computer and iPhoto Library so I know at least they exist ...

i dont know whats causing this but def not user error, far to many happenings for it to be user error.

i opened up iphoto today and found no events/photos/libraries etc, once i'd had my heartattack i tried to fix it.

for some reason iphoto had changed path and was no longer looking to where it should. so i tried the following:

command-F,

searched .jpg

found an original photo from Iphoto and clicked on it

copied the path displayed at the bottom of the pop up box

held down option and opened iphoto at the same time

navigated to the library i wanted to use from the path that i copied

and voila my photos were back,

apologies to those who have lost all picture even off of your HD, then obviously this will not work.

Ok this may or may not be related but is f****ing scary nonetheless!!

I have growl installed and was working away this afternoon when a notification popped up 'xxxx.pdf' has been deleted from your dropbox, then five minutes later 'the folder andy to globalize has been deleted'!!

I never touched anything, didn't delete anything but right enough these files and folders were no longer there in the dropbox folder on my HD

NOW i open spotlight and it's started indexing my HD? is that usual?

Could it be there's something maliciously deleting folders and files and photo librbaries!?

I have the same problem, but I have 10.8.2. Where do I find the pkg files that I need to delete?

My entire i-photo library has disappeared and the library no longer recognizes my i-phone! Help!!!

Did you ever solve the disappearing Iphoto pictures?  I lost two years worth.

Bam...gone.

Any solutions?  I lost two years.

ps: I opened" All files" in finder search and located most of the jpg files that came up missing and put them in a seperate file under "pictures" and then imported them back into Iphoto...I have no doubt but there is a more expert process, or that a simpler one exists.

I have a slightly different problem. My photo library is still on my computer, but the iPhoto application has completely disappeared. Since there is no application, I'm unable to access all the gigabytes of photos. Any suggestions from the Apple community?

Reinstall iPhoto.  If your computer came with Lion or Mt. Lion preinstalled go to the App Store, log in with the Apple ID used to purchase or register your Mac, go to Purchases and re-download and install iPhoto.

If you Mac came with Snow Leopard or earlier then use the disks that came with the Mac to reinstall iPhoto (or the iLIfe disk if you used it to install your current iPhoto version).

I tried doing that. Unfortunately, I only got as far as App Store --> Purchase when I discovered that according to App Store I don't own iPhoto and never have. Which is a big "misunderstanding". I have no clue how to restore the application, since apparently it was never mine in the first place.

iPhoto comes on all new Macs - either on the restore disks that come with the computer or in the App store in purchases under the Apple ID you used to set up the Mac - you may have to unhide or accept the application to see it

Did you Mac come with Lion or Mt. Lion preinstalled? If not then it wouldn't be at the App Store.
