The serial number is not on the install discs. With FCS 2 and earlier, the serial number stickers were located on the front of the booklet titled "Installing Your Software" which was included in the package. With FCS 3, the serial number was located on the back of the booklet. The serial number should look something like this: F-123-ABC-456-DEF-789-GHI-012-JKL-MNO-Z345
>>What is a person to do?<<
Enter the correct serial number.

Jan 27, 2013 7:00 PM in response to Russ Hby deertreee,Thanks, but the conditions on that page are very unrealstic. The Customer as to find a reciept from 3 years ago? With Purchase Date and invoice, heck have you been to apple store, oh we can just email the receipt to you. Well how do you search that years later, Not an option! So that doesn't work.
Apple Store onlne, Does not list software past 18months on their website. How inconvenient. So that option is null too. I did register it so I will try and call the Apple Sales Support tomorrow, as they are not open currently. A lot of work to get a product to work that is legally purchased. This is why piracy so attractive. Because when You play by the rules and buy software and many many hoops to jump through. We shall see but I am sure the phone number will ask, "oh did you buy some apple support for this?" well we can't help you unless you pay.
The solution is to have the software be able to be installed with valid software, and/or have an online access that shows your SN, and allows you to cancel or regenerate a code.
Thanks,
Jason

Jan 27, 2013 7:11 PM in response to deertreeeby David Harbsmeier,FWIW, it's always a good idea to keep software serial numbers in a database or spreadsheet and back it up off-site. It is the buyer's responsibility to keep up with things ... not the seller's.

Jan 27, 2013 7:17 PM in response to David Harbsmeierby deertreee,OH I have them! that's what is so infuriating! I have the orginal SN, Final Cut Studio! The Final Cut Studio upgrade. I have them all None of them work, That's the problem. I am fully responsible for keeping track of them and I do have them.

Jan 27, 2013 7:22 PM in response to deertreeeby Meg The Dog,I haven't done this in a while but I if I recall correctly Final Cut prompts for the original (full version) serial number first and then the upgrade version serial number.
What happens when you enter the original (full) version serial number?
Is this is fresh installation or did you migrate the app to your new computer?

Jan 27, 2013 7:40 PM in response to Meg The Dogby deertreee,Thanks, Yes, I tried the orginal SN, to no avial. And yes this is a migration to the new imac.

Jan 27, 2013 7:54 PM in response to deertreeeby Meg The Dog,Migrating the pro apps is never recommend. It is always better to do a fresh install.
Don't know if this will solve your password problem, but in any case I would recommend that you install off your discs.
You don't need to install from your original dics, everything will install from the upgrade disc, but you will need both sets of serial numbers.
You can download FCS Remover (free) from Digital Rebellion to remove all the components from your migration, then one you have cleared those off, do a fresh install.

I am assuming that you are installing a version of FCP qualified for an intel processor, not an old version that runs on a Power PC chip.

Jan 28, 2013 8:56 AM in response to Meg The Dogby Studio X,You also need to be VERY careful regarding the numbers/letters. I thought I had a failed S/N issue but in my dyslexic rush to enter, I was not reading/typing the code correctly. It was really embarrassing to call Applecare to rant about this when it was entirely my error...

Feb 5, 2013 11:01 PM in response to deertreeeby deertreee,Success People of the internet! It's the SN on the back page of install booklet with the disks for Final Cut Studio 7. Every other SN I entered was from 1.1.5, Studio, all these others, Still ridiculous that the migration app doesn't allow it to work. So anyone else transfering FCP Studio 7, it's on the back page of the install books. Sounds increadibly simple but I have 4 other SN valid purchased that I tried. Oh well apple stopped FCP Studio so it won't matter in the future. But it would be awesome to be able to log in to this website and deauthorized or authorized software. rather that digging for SN from years and years ago. Hope that helps anyone out there.
thanks for all your post supporting,
Jason
