This is really horrible.  I have duplicate applications installed on my computer.  I just discovered this today because the length of time it takes to load a web page, something that i've typed, even scrolling down makes the freaking Beach Ball spin & spin.

i NOTICED  a month ago, but it was not bothersome.  I use Chrome to do most of my blogging and stuff.  The Shockwave Player kept crashing, then my pages kept saying Aww Snap (or whatever it says when a page fails to load) and turning grey.  Today I just had to stop using the Mac because it was pretty much stagnant on a page and I even tried using Safari and it does the same.

I# am unsure as towhat to do first.  Does anyone have any ideas about how to resolve the duplicates?  Is there an app i can install that cleans up all the items that are junk and doubles?  What should I do to fix this?  I appreciate any suggestions and thank you in advance!!

    Beach Ball spin & spin.

How large is your hard drive and how much hard drive space do you have left?

    Troubleshoot the spinning beach ball

Is there an app i can install that cleans up all the items that are junk and doubles?

Yes.  Check Apple App Store, Macupdate and CNET Mac Downloads for all Mac software.

You can either manually delete them or download third party software that will do it for you.

I like to go to CNET to DL Apps, I for sure have to install a program to help me with this & so it's done right too.  What is an App like that called?  One that helps you get rid of unused files and duplicate apps.  Any ideas?

    THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING

In the CNET search field, make sure "Mac Software" is selected and for your keywords use either "duplicates" or "duplicate file finder."

Make sure you read the reviews and the system requirements of the software you are interested in.  Also if the software is not free, check to see if there is a demo or trial version of the product.  This way you can try it out for free.

I am a longtime user of File Buddy which is my personal preference.

It appears you are running out of hard drive space because of your duplicates.

OmniDiskSweeper is a free utility that checks HD space.

FreeSpace# cost $1 or is a free utility that checks HD space.

SpaceControl is a free utility that checks HD space.

FreeSpace cost $.99 -  FreeSpace shows you how much space is available on all local, connected, and network drives with a single click.

Rule of thumb: You should never let your hard drive get to where you have only 10-15% of space left.

Have you tried the "Secure Empty Trash" option?

Other options - You can't empty the Trash or move a file to the Trash and the suggestions mentioned in the thread Mac OS X 10.6 deleting items permanently instead of moving them to Trash .

What do you mean I don't have permission.  I bought you, you wack mac!

The Mac Hard Drive  Capacity - 119.69GB    Available - 7.4 GB        Used - 112.29GB (on disk)

Then the "User Volume (ya know it looks like the little house with your name under it) .

    Capacity - 239.38                  Available - 7.36GB                  Used - 232.02 GB

No wonder you are having a problem.

You need to immediately delete some files you do not need. In order for the OS to operate properly, you need a minimum of 10 - 15 GB of empty space available at all times.

Do NOT download anything further until you have cleared about 10 GB of files off your hard drive.

I would suggest making an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar. They will be able to sort this out and the service is free.

For future reference, empty the trash regularly rather  then wait until you have hundreds of files in there.
