not a problem.
Class description being fulfilled
Lesson fully prepared
Variety of skills in the lesson
All students equally and fairly treated
All students had equal opportunity for speaking practice
See I would like to change the x with an tick sign.
thanks for your help.

I like your way of thinking. I agree that a cross = "Bad" and a tick = "Good".
I used the Pages Help Menu (search for 'tick symbol'). I chose this from Help items:
Typing Special Characters and Symbols
So, I did this:
Menu > Edit > Special Characters
Then (after hunting) I found "Bullets and Stars"
Then I double-clicked on the "tick" to insert it into my Pages document. ✓

Glad you are satisfied with this option. The best solution, as I recall, was posted by Fruhulda. I hope that she posts to your question so I will be reminded what it was.

Here I am again, hours later, with what I think was Fruhulda's solution. Took awhile for it to percolate to the top of my consciousness:
The idea here is that you format the cell's text as a Bulleted List and choose the checked box, or the unchecked one, as your bullet. You have to leave some text behind, such as a space character for this to work reliably, but it is a nice effect.
