And I am completely certain that you are wrong, as you have been on every other point, you have made. there are no Apple employees here.

And once again, if you want an optical drive you can buy one, your arrogance in assuming that we should all have to have one just because you want one is overwhelming.

Alright so adding to the original point that a few ****** failed to understand in any way shape or form.

    - Some of us actually have to think twice before dropping the money on a new apple product, after all is said and done and apple care is bought, one should not have to spring for a god **** external drive.

I'm glad apple is trying to poorly implement new technologies that no one uses yet, and I'm glad they feel the need to force thunderbolt on all of us even though most audio interfaces and video systems are still built with firewire.

They seem to have completely forgotten about Blu Ray, which is awesome, and they definitely shot themselves in the foot AGAIN with the gaming industry because most game still come on a disk [ for now].

Now I know someone will feel the need to ***** about all of these points which is an inevitability, and this person's poorly thought out arguments over the benefits of ruining what was once an awesome machine with a far too soon tech jump will be hilarious to read.

Everyone said time and time again [ jealous sad PC users] that apple's success had nothing to do with Steve Jobs, but if any of you are actual apple users you PROBABLY remember what kind of trainwreck this company was when he was GONE. Remember? I bet you do, and then he came back and here we are. Now he's dead and these abominations are coming out and theres a new phone every 3 months [ that is almost identical to the previous phone]. Get it together apple.

    I fear for the future

Csound1 Ohh gosh, they are forcing you to buy a optical drive in an All-In-One. Do you you realize that in the current version they are forcing you to buy a monitor also. Let's get Apple to make an all in one in which we don't have to pay for a optical drive or a monitor. Maybe we can even get them to hike up the price further.

There was and never was a price bump to include the DVD drive. They made it a flat 2G just as before, the only difference is now you are paying for a medium that no one on earth uses which will most likely fall into obscurity just like HD DVD and Betamax. or better yet, freaking ZIP drives. Enjoy that.

Buy something else if you don't like the iMac.

Your logic never fails to disappoint. By the way I have a iMac (5 years old) with a DVD drive works great, just long in the tooth, I would have liked to get another one with ALL the ALL-IN-ONE goodies (emphasis on ALL-IN-ONE) but can't.

And what would you like done about that?

If you have been paying attention to the heading of the discussion and the disappointment of most. It should be self explanatory.

The heading is appears to be asking whether the new iMac has a DVD, or it is just a statement. (No DVD drive in new iMac ???)

You have not said what you want, merely complained at what you don't want.

Again, what do you want done about the fact that the new iMacs have no DVD drive, what are you expecting Apple to do for you?

What makes you think that venting off about it in this (user-to-user) forum will do any good?

I do agree that it's a bad move and indeed I expect things to get worse in future.

This 24" should last me out, though.

Earlier in this thread I used the term 'workhorse' to describe where I think Apple will have to go if the new iMac is the disaster so many people forecast.

And I have seen nothing to change my view.

The new iMac is not commercial.   It is convenient (for Apple) and different enough to gain a modicum of attention ... but it is not commercial.    Apple's original 'all in one' principle reigns, and despite the fact that other cheaper versions are on the market, it will eventually reappear.

Apple will not readily lose such a slice in the market, so sit back folks and wait.

Hello Csound from Leeds Castle, Nr Maidstone.   Well, round the corner from.

Where are you now?   Tonbridge is an excellent place to live.

Today I am in Chicago, in about 3 weeks Falmouth (Cornwall) followed by Ste. Maximin (Provence), I no longer have a permanant residence (or so it seems),

My sister lives in Maidstone, I know the area well (and Leeds Castle is lovely)

I really must learn to put the commas in the right place .... 'Hello Csound from Leeds Castle,' indeed!

We have more in common ... my dear wife is French (North of Provence, Le Mans) and as a consequence a huge portion of my family.  If you get round to visiting your sister in Maidstone perhaps we could find a way to say hello.

    Regards,  71.
