What other browsers have you tried? Safari? Chrome?
Try setting up a new Mac user (System Preferences - Users and Groups) and logging in there. This will give you a fresh "profile" (reset your application preferences and caches, etc). Any difference?
You can try reinstalling the latest combo update - 10.8.2. This is less intrusive that a complete reinstall.
If neither a new user profile or the update doesn't fix it, a reinstall of 10.8 might be required.

the unsupported browser & visual editor quirks are sometimes due to 'anti-virus' or 'security' software modifying the 'user agent' shown to websites... if you have any such software, that is a possible cuase.
