I'm updating my iPad3 to 6.1 and it says it will take 5 hours. Is this normal? Why so long?  My iPod touch 4th gen. only took 8 minutes.

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion, iPad3, iPod Touch 4, Apple TV

Could be a lot of people all doing it at once. I know my Touch updated quickly, but my iPad is going more slowly. could simply be the strain on apple's servers. ANd if it's that, unfortunately, all you can do is wait and try later.

I have downloaded it around 4pm central time. Took 15-20 min max.

As skydiver said. Do one device at a time. Dont use other devices. Well maybe just wait and might be done hopefully soon.

What iOS version is currently on the iPad 3? Were you updating over wifi or connected to your computer?

If connected to your computer, you probably need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily
