    Well....

When Csound1 and a couple of other's continually post complete drivel about their social lives like this was facebook, I try to keep the discussion on track.   Csound1 is the one who makes other's uncomfortable -- Read some of the replies.

bernie, you may be surprised at how long your imacs can last. in about four or five years you may even look to pick up a spare 2011 model for about $500 to have "just in case". i currently am getting by on a 2002 g4 imac which i bought new, but i'm going to upgrade later this year. what am i looking at? a 2003 top of the line g4 imac. and i will keep my older model.  and you're right, there's no telling what machines apple will make down the road. or what peoples needs will be.

i think a lot of complaints are purely driven by the name of this machine, the newest or 2012 imac. i don't think apple would've gotten as much flak if they had just discontinued the imac and decided to name this new machine the "desktop air" or something like that.

    "desktop air"

    I love it!

    Maybe the "desktop hot air"?

Be careful what you write BD ... be very careful.   There are folks around here who don't appreciate levity in these columns.

Thanks for the heads up guys... it's painful being new to these parts, but as I understand it, Apple is willing to cannibalize sales to long time Mac users to attract the far bigger market of PC switchers & people that cannot breath without Twittering & exposing themselves on FaceBook!?

    (No levity intended)

baltwo, Thanks for the reply and the links, most helpful. I have no doubt I will battle through and find my way around.

For the most part I do just ignore the impoliteness but this time I felt I had to say something.

    Thanks again :)

i must say that this has to be the most child like thread i have seen in a long time.... i would say to the people who dont like the idea of no cd-dvd drive,,its simple,,,you just buy an external one....or you dont buy the new imac.... its hard to believe that for some people on here the worse thing going on in their life is no cd-dvd drive on an imac... time to really get a life,,grow up and put on your big boy pants...... i really do feel that after reading this whole thread my iq dropped about 60 points.... an imac without a cd-dvd drive is sooooo unimportant it makes me wonder how shallow people can be.... why dont you go to a homeless shelter and volunteer the same amount of time you have wasted here trying to convince people to not buy the new imac....go see a stranger in the hospital and cheer them up....maybe take a dog for a walk....but for heavens sake,,,if this is what is important in your life i will say a prayer for you so that you can get past your little issue...you sound almost like a religious fanatic knocking on doors trying to convince people of something... time to let it go...apple will not change this,,,they will continue to sell a boat load of imacs like they always have and they will gain more new customers then they will lose..... put it to rest....your beating a dead horse... cheers....

If you don't  think it's an issue then you're not paying close enough attention.  But don't just take my word for it -- Do a google search for "new imac no optical drive".   You will be amazed at how many also think that it is an issue.

But, I do have a choice, and I have choosen not to buy one of these new iMacs with no optical drive, no SD card reader or USB port in a convenient locaton.  My hope is that in the near future apple makes an iMac that is not disfunctional.

So why were you so aggressive towards me over my friendly attitude to Csound.   I was diametrically opposed to his view point, but civil enough to acknowledge he had a right to his views.   That is what the forums are all about.

I think you should review your contributions and acknowledge your faults.   Being aggressive (writing drivel) is less than civil in any circumstances.
