I have a MBP

OS 10.7.5

2.4GHz Intel Core Duo

2GB 1067 MHz DDDR3

NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB

500MB HD

All software uptodate.

Upgraded to current OS last Feb since when I have all sorts of problems. Very slow especially iPhoto, Mail, Address Book. Had new hard drive installed - Apple store saying it was a HD problem. Laptop worked beautifully! Blisteringly fast. Then reinstalled everything from Time Machine and it all slowed down again. Apple store thinks there is a bug or 'strange file' somewhere in iPhoto. Opening iPhoto slows other apps even more. Beach ball seen everytime I use any app for anything up to a minute.

Used to have about 9000 photos in iPhoto. iPhoto has now created new photos with every face in every photo. So a group photo with 15 people in it has now spawned 15 photos. Also, almost every photo seems to have a duplicate if not a triplicate. iPhoto now had over 50,000 photos!!! Also, many photos are now just blank. When open them up a big ? appears. Scrolling takes forever. The process of opening and closing iPhoto takes nearly 5 minutes.

    As a Test:

Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'

Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

The Apple Store you consulted with are talking through their collective hats.

iPhoto up till iPhoto v5: Good for 25,000 in any library

iPhoto v6 to v9: Good for 250,000 images in any one Library

Since v9: Good for 1,000,000 images in any one Library.

What happened when you ran the test, above?

How much free space do you have on your MPB?
