Oddly enough this has happened to my nano 6th gen too. It was working last month and was recognisable in itunes now its not.. ive followed all the steps but no joy. after 3 reinstalls of itunes it suddenly worked, but now wont let me update anything on it...
Update. i wiped the ipad to factory settings and reinstalled it. seems to work now. very frustrating indeed no logic to this fix.

Well LozB, I've tried everything except uninstall Itunes. I've reinstalled Itunes over the already installed program several times, each time it asks me if I wish to repair or unistall and I clicked repair. Maybe I'll try uninstall a few times and see what happens. I've reset this thing about 5 times but to no avail. I've been to suggested on my computer I've never new existed to try and fix this thing. Very frustrating.
