Was importing from my camera (550d), had full charge, usb wasn't removed or iphoto closed prematurely. Half way through, stopped and said the remaining photos unreadable from the camera. Opened the event in iPhoto, the ones it imported were all there, but their thumbnails weren't loading.

Closed, reopened iPhoto and all the photos just imported are now gone. Problem is, I clicked the 'Delete from camera' button at the end of the import so can no longer import them from my camera. Is there any sort of iPhoto log so I can see if it's put them anywhere (can't see them anywhere obv from within the iPhoto library). And any clues as why it's done this?

Very annoying, just spent a week abroad and now may have lost half my photos for no real reason.

You can recover the files from the card using an app like MediaRecover

Never let your computer erase data without you first checking that the data is safe. Specifically never use iPhoto (or any other app) to delete the photos from your Camera Card. Disconnect the camera, check the transfer has gone correctly and then use your Camera to Reformat the Card. This has three advantages:

    1. You know your data is safe - because you've taken the time to check it.

    2. Reformatting the card is much, much faster - takes a couple of seconds

    3. Reformatting also refreshes the Directory Structure on the Card, helping prevent issues with the card and prolonging its life.
