My iPhone 5 64GB White drop WiFi signals frequently if I move a little bit or the iPhone recovers from sleep.

    iOS6.1

I did apologise in my post for directing my anger at you.

In general, all people who claim that wifi is supposed to disconnect either don't know exactly what the issue is or are extremely lucky.

Wifi disconnects no matter how the screen is switched off: locked manually, locked when timed out or switched off via proximity sensor.

I never had any problems streaming with my unplugged iOS4 or 5 devices (with screen locked).

Exact same devices (upgraded to iOS6) as well as my new iPhone 5 disconnect as soon as the screen is locked, switched off, etc. The only way to keep it going to is plug it in.

I cannot for the life of me believe that this is a well known old feature. It never did that before iOS6. It shouldn't do that. It defies the purpose. The claim that it is supposed to be like that and that nothing has changed is just utter nonsense.

It's a software bug and not just limited to certain iPhone 5's (unlike wifi speed issues that may or may not be hardware related). It does it on my old perfectly healthy iPhone 4, iPod 4, iPad 2, iPhone 5, all the iPhone 5's that I tested inside Apple store and all my mates' iOS6 devices.

FWIW, my iPhone 5 streams from Wi-Fi OK with the screen locked.  I checked it by disabling cellular data and then firing up Pandora.  It's been streaming several songs now laying on the desk, locked, and not plugged in.

I think that some may have described the "well known old feature" so briefly that it wasn't fully clear.

Let me provide more detail as to what they meant to say.

The intended behavior is that WiFi should disconnect when the screen is locked UNLESS an application such as Pandora, is using that connection. In the case where it is being used, it should stay connected when locked.

My iPhone 5 is working correctly now that I have iOS 6.1 installed and has not had any hiccups since. I can stream from Pandora with the screen locked.

My iphone5 was not connecting to WiFi at all (Home, Friends Home, Work) therefore I could not update  my softare to iOS 6.1 (Didnt have computer access at that time) so I took it into Verizon, where the tech support did a hart reset (Held down lock & home for 10 seconds) and somehow got the WiFi to work there, I went home and it worked there and I was able to update my software.

I thoguht all was great and then I came to work today and the WiFi still does not connect here... Looks like I will be making yet ANOTHER trip back to the store.  3rd trip and I've only had it 3 days..

I do like to be on WiFi but also wouldn't be AS concerned if they hadn't taken away the Unlimited Data and everything I do with my phone at work is now taking away from my 2 GB data.

Yes thank you for clarifying. The earlier post did not mention anything about while streaming. With that said. I am using a 4s and it works fine as well. I never noticed that it didnt with iOS 6 but currently running iOS 6.1 I too have verified with slacker and Amazon cloud player it continues to stream with cellular data off and screen locked. So not sure why Jasmid cant do it on any of the devices mentioned that it was ever tried on.

Nope, it didn't help at all. Still in the middle of using it my WiFi either starts getting really slow or non-existent, though the bars are showing a complete connection and I'm sitting a few feet from my router. I found the easy temporary fix is to turn off the Wifi on the iPhone and immediately turn back on. Not sure exchanging the iPhone is the way to go because from reading all the posts that doesn't seem to help.

It doesn't always help, but it often does.  My own WiFi issues were cured with a new phone, and others on here have had theirs fixed as well.  But others have changed phones and still had the problem.  So either it's a combination of problems (likely), or if it's a hardware issue, there's a possibility you may get the same problem on new hardware.

On the other hand, other than time and aggravation, there's not much to lose by exchanging the phone if the current one isn't working right.

if you're using a metal case, thats your problem, not Apple's.

its common sense that radio waves are affected by metal. thats why the phones have a plastic window on top of the antennae.

Interesting point of view. Maybe that's why Steve Jobs opted for Glass covers instead of aluminum like the new Apple management has decided to use for the iP5

Ditto that. AntennaGate is no longer. Using a metal case over your phone (of ANY make) is just asking for trouble. It's like walking into a basement of a large building and expecting your signal strength to be unaffected by the concrete and steel surrounding you.

I have had great success with the OtterBox cases.

If that's the case, why would Apple use a metal back on the iphone5??  It's not a metal case that is the the problem cause I have a plastic case and that gave me problems with the wifi connection for a bit.

Did you bother to read the post? Do you know about the plastic windows in the iphone 5 where the antenna are? the design is perfect, there's no interference.

my iphone 5 has had no problem with wifi, bluetooth or lte on any update. I am not saying others are not having problem, but its not a fundamental design flaw as you make it out to be.

read the post fully and understand what "plastic" windows mean.

plastic cases will not cause problems. you may be thinking its because of that, but not necessarily. (unless they have some wierd metal embedded in them for extra strength or whatever).
