I have an MBA with spanish layout and an Apple wireless keyboard with US layout. Is there a way to assign a different layout to each device, so that I wouldn't have to manually switch between two keyboard layouts (or use keyboard shortcuts)?

apparently there is no (programmatic) way to find out which keyboard is being used in time to change the layout... So, the only solution for you, is get an Apple wireless keyboard with spanish layout to match your internal keyboard.

I do not recommend using Ukelele (a great tool, but for other purposes) to change your keyboard mapping, since the keycaps would no longer correspond to the generate characters; that would be too messy...
