You're not ruffling my feathers. I am just making a scientific point. what problems people may be having has nothing to do with the antenna/metal back/plastic window design.

People using full metal cases does have everything to do with it.

I recieved my iPhone5 mid January.

First 2 weeks no problems; I even was amazed about the stronger wifi signal on the 2nd floor of my house.

The day ios6.0.2 became public I got a message ; "cannot connect to Wifi network XXXX"

I saw there was an update for wifi issues iOS6.0.2, so after rebooting my phone I installed iOS6.0.2.

From that moment on these are the issues I encounter at home:

    - Good wifi at home when I'm sitting on the couch 2 meters from my router.

    - Poor unstable wifi when I'm 6 meter away without any wall between me and my router

    - when there is a wall between the router and my iPhone5..... No chance of getting a reliable connection or normal data traffic speed.... Tweets won't load, speedtest hangs, news isn't refreshed within apps, apps can't be downloaded.

    - iPad 3 and iPhone 4 are both on iOs6.1 too and perform as expected in the same location

Other wifi networks (friends and family)

    - I can't get connect unless I'm sitting right on the router or keep pushing the button connect till the "can't connect message disappears"

    - identical symptoms as I'm having at home

    - fiends with an iPhone5 can use the same networks without any problems but had problems with 6.0.1

    - did not find any wifinetwork in my social environment which I can use als expected

    - great wifi signal and reliable connection

    - my office is on a new area and has lots of wifi access points and no other buildings with other wifi signals in the neighborhood (MAYBE THIS HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT) - who is able to test/conform this???

Updating to iOS6.1 changed nothing...... So I'm lost

If you have tried the solutions posted such as reset network settings and restores of iOS perhaps you can take it back to Apple for exchange. Most likely a hardware issue if the software fixes have not helped.

Sounds elegant and logical.  But wouldn't one think that Apple might have explored such a simple possibility?  If not, do we really have to do their jobs for them - when they get paid HOW MUCH???

Thanks! Who knows if Apple has explored that. They obviously do not read these forums.

I went through the anger thing, too (wanting to know who would refund my extra data usage costs), but am over it now and on to trying to find a solution.

Either way (Apple looking or not), I am interested in finding any connections because I enjoy that type of thing - helping others out.

Appie: I can bet its something to do with Firmware on your router, upgrade/downgrade it if you can for testing purposes. I wouldnt simply rely on IOS 6.1 to be your lifeline, otherwise you'd be wait a lifetime .

I also agree with electronics guy.

Unless your iphone can be proven to have a physical fault internally, there's be no mention of antenae faults in iphone 5's posted by apple. I use whole leather covered pocket case for mine and signal was fine.

The issues lies with compability of WiFi WAP's out in the market and how us users have them configured.

Its fair to say it should be a simple process they should all work, but thats not the reality.

You can say that this is not an iPhone 5 issue by passing the fault onto the communication between the iPhone 5 and some WAPs. However, this is still blatantly an iPhone 5 issue as no other devices have this problem.

There may be intermittent fixes around the place that work 50% of the time for some users, but this is no where near good enough for a $1000+ device. We shouldn't have to rely on our own expertise when it comes to network configuration just to have regular WiFi connectivity.

In my case, and I believe most cases here, it isn't a router's firmware problem.

My iphone 5 worked great in my home network. I went to sleep and when I woke up it wasn't working anymore.

Nothing was done to my router's firmware. Nothing changed in my home network neither in my router.

No i'm 100% sure it is not related to the router firmware:

-I have a standard router from by cable provider, I cannot upgrade it by myself

    - I went to 2 different friends, my parents and parents in law and updated their routers firmware....same issue

    - so the issue is really is on all (updated or not) routers I connected to (min 20 different routers tested). All of these private networks do not work only that one in my Office building, which is:

    a. situated completely isolated on a new industrial area

    b. is loaded with routers and range extenders

I expect is a hardware failure and will try to swap it next week; keep you posted

Hi applenl, you are from the netherlands I suppose. As you could read in my posts it's the same story as mine in Belgium. Maybe the same serie of iPhones.

I got my iphone november 24th

    Correct; I'm Dutch.

I read all the posts the past weeks and read yours too. Now 6.1 is not a solution land other iPhones5 work fine I'll go for a hardware swap.

Me too, i already informed by phone to my reseller, they need to send back the iPhone to Apple and it takes 10 to 15 days... Not easy to work 2 weeks without a mobile...
