Have you tried unplugging the monitor from mains and then plugging it up in about 3 minutes? I 'lost' my USB hubs one time - panicked - and finally unplugged and replugged the monitor. Everything has been back to normal since.

    Hi Clinton,

Yes I try that, I left all night the TD unpluged and in next morning the same problem. I left all cables unplugged too, so there was no "Power" from the MBP to TD and Nothing happend.

    Thanks 4 your answer.

Today I bought a Powered USB Hub, and the same problem here.

    Any Advice ?

A terminal command to send power to the ports of the Thunderbolt display. USB, Facetime and Sound, doesn't work. Or work for a couple of minutes .

Try this: Unplug the Thunderbolt Connector that goes from the Display (built in to display along with power connector) to the MacBook Pro (leaving the power connector plugged in from the display). Then, get a Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable and plug in to the Thunderbolt port on the Thunderbolt Display and the other end into one of the Thunderbolt ports on the computer. This workaround solution should provide full functionality. It did for me. I realize this cost for the cable ($50), but it does work.

When the TD is operating correctly and you go to System Information, under "USB" you will see BOTH the MacBook Pro audio and camera as well as the Thunderbolt Display Audio and Camera (if you don't see the Thunderbolt USB Audio and Camera), Thunderbolt Cable is malfunctioning (or electronics in TD).

Sorry I can't be of more help. But this fix worked for me. Then I sent the TD display to Apple explaining all this, and they replaced the "All-in-One" cable (or electronics interface where it goes in TD), and now the TD works fine without the workaround.

Barry, so you said that I have to buy a Thunderbolt cable to check if the TD is 100% funcion. Is not, I have to take it to apple store to fix it?  And if it's work I have to take it there to fix the main cable.

    That correct.

    Thanks

It so happened I have several Thunderbolt devices and therefore have 3 or 4 Thunderbolt cables (I am using most of the funtionality of the MacBook Pro--back up drives, etc for max speed). So, I just used one of those to verify. If you don't have a Thunderbolt cable, yes you would have to buy one. Since you have a computer with that high speed capability, you might want to have one or two of those on hand to use the full capability of the computer.

Your comment, I believe, was stating that if you found a problem, from this process, you would have to take it to the Apple Store to fix it. Yes that is true, but at least you know precisely the problem and can demonstrate it.

The issue here is that: a) You would like to know if this fix works so that you know this is definitely the problem to have them address it properly; and, b) in th meantime you have a workaround until you can do that.

All I can tell you is that several of the folks owning the TD have had this problem (like you are having, and like I had). Now my TD has been fixed by Apple (but, I know several who took their TD to Apple and the Apple Store did not find the problem because it was always intermittent or the Apple Store tried something that appeared to work, but actually did not fix the problem). This method merely assisted in the process to identify and fix the TD.

Again sorry I can't be more helpful. I sure wish the problem didn't exist. But, you have a great computer and a great display. I know it's sure frustraing. Of course, you can always return the devices and get something else, but the MacBook Pro and TD are sure a nice setup.

    Best to you.
