I just wiped my iPhone 5 - downloaded all my apps hoping this would work. Plugged in my lightning cable and not one minute later this crap touchscreen problems started up again!!!! I just don't understand why now... From the day I got my first iPhone 5 Sept 21 up to a few days ago I've had zero issues... Well besides my lock button breaking, I haven't had any major issues. I find this touchscreen problem to be a liability. I can't charge my phone without it doing the most random thing be it calling people, opening apps and typing all on its own.....

I've had the iPhone 3G, 4, 4S and now the 5 (3rd phone) and had ZERO problems till now. I'm just waiting for my phone to blow up in my face......

I have this problem as well with my iphone5

the touch screen starts to malfunction when I am out. When I am home, it generally works ok.

Outside, the first symptom is touches start not to be registered then it ceases to recognize everything. If I lock and unlock it using the button it'll start working again, sort of, but not for long.

Thanks to the person above who suggested it might be temp related. Although outside is far from cold, it is probably slightly colder than inside -- so I'll try the fridge test.

I'm worried about going to the apple store and not being able to demonstrate the issue!

Did you try a different outlet? At you using the official apple charging port and lightning cable? If I plug my apple lightning cable into my generic charging port I get the screen unresponsiveness. If I plug my lightning cable into the official apple charging port the problem is gone.

I think it's a grounding issue.  Next time it acts up, try it with your case off.  Your hands touching the device might make a difference. If so the. It's a grounding issue with a ****** after market charging port or possibly a bad ground in the outlet.

Went to apple store, made appointment with genius bar.

The guy asked me the problem I said well the touch screen often stops working, but unfortunately I'm not sure I can demonstrate the problem, as there is no guarantee it will not be functioning at the time of the appointment.

He said, don't worry, I've seen this before, we'll believe you, just back it up (read: we will give you a replacement).

My read: they are getting a steady stream of people with this problem with the iphone5 and are just doing swaps no questions, no arguments.

Just be happy they're replacing it bud. They don't really make you recreate the problem anyways they just need you to be upset or complaining about something and they'll swap it. By the way, they also don't argue with you I'm sure if you got to the argument part they would just say if there's a problem that you see we'll go ahead and replace it for you. They aren't going to have you deal with something that doesn't exactly work. I hope everything gets fixed with all of yours.

If you guys won't be able to swap it at an apple store I'd try calling in to support and they will put a lock on it and make it force to be replaced.

Screen froze completely after 3 days. Every other button works, just can't interract with screen no matter what type of re-set you do.   I have had previous models continuously for 4 years without a single problem. Took it in to Genius Bar yesterday and they replaced it no problem under warranty.  Not so surprising, they want you back buying apps ASAP.

I'm pretty sure they just want to replace your product they aren't some group of strategists trying to make the most money for a company. They're these things called workers I doubt buying apps went through their mind they seriously just want to replace a defective product. Haha someone's too superstitious.

My Iphone 5 does this weird thing where it just freezes, some random vertical lines show up, and shuts off. Do you know what the cause of this is?

This solution worked to solve the incorordinated and hyper responsive touch screen.

This problem persisted ONLY when the charging is complete (100%) and still the cable is connected to the power source or to the laptop. Once the charging cable is removed, the problem stopped. I checked it repeatedly by typing text with the cable on and off (charge being 100%). The problems exactly stopped once the cable was off.

So might work, in case of minor touch issues.

I just bought one and this behaviour happens not to offen and randomly, don't know why. The phone is generaly ok, so I don't know if I should go there and ask for another..  cause it might work ok there.  Generally it only happens after I restart it or change language.. something like that.   I really hope it's a software problem.

What if the new phone is even worst than the old one you changed??  Will you keep replacing it until you have a good one??

In your case, I would call Apple support and tell them that it happens at random times. They will put a lock on it and force it to be replaced. The next day you should recieve a box with instructions on shipping the phone back. They also offer express which makes them need your credit card but you get the phone first with instructions on how to send your defective one to CA.

darious..  are you sure that wil fix it??..  I about to go buy a new adapter..  cause I really suspect that if I get a new phone replace.. I will just waste my time cause the problem will repeat.
