Wanted to set up the WebServer on office computer( iMac snow Leopard) but to my surprise it appears to be missing - that is it is not in the Library folder where I expected it and where it is on my computer at home. I have reinstalled the system but still no luck. Suggestions would be very welcome.

System Preferences -> Sharing -> Web Sharing to enable the web server.

The default system web page is located in /Library/WebServer/Documents, and you can access this via Finder -> Go -> Go to Folder, then enter  /Library/WebServer/Documents

You can access a peronal web page using http://your.mac/~yourShortUsername

The index.html for this page is in your home folder -> SItes

For Snow Leopard, /Library/WebServer/Documents is where I expect to find it.

Mountain Lion has eliminated the personal web server option.  But you do say Snow Leopard.

There is nothing much special about /Library/WebServer/... so you could copy the files over from your home computer and set the permissions the match.  Chances are you are most interested in /Library/WebServer/Documents/index.html and after that everything else will be your own content.
