Hi. My whole apple tv set up was working a few days ago. Yesterday I turned my Apple Tv on and tried to play through there - also tried Airplaying but there was no sound - picture was fine. I then tried to connect my mac to my TV using the HDMI cable but it would not even show a picture - it says there was an issue with the cord. Am just a little confused how it was working and then it's not. I have looked in System Preferences to see if I can change the sound output - but all it has is Inbuilt - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Apple TV, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

    Welcome to the Apple community.

Is this question about airplay, or is it the case that your Apple TV is not playing any audio when it plays any content.

The reason I ask is that airplay from your Mac requires OS X 10.8 and your profile states that you are using OS X 10.7. Would you please clarify your question.

Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.
