Jan 30, 2013 7:49 AM in response to JannieRatkeby 2012FitFan,Set up a Genius appointment and went to the Apple store. First time in an Apple store. I was impressed with the service and all around experience. The representative thoroughly checked the phone, ran some diagnostics and in the end replaced it with a new phone. Great experience. Apple deserves credit for treating it's customers well.
I know other folks have had their phones replaced and then experienced the exact same issue again. I'm crossing my fingers. I will say this, thus far it connects to my car without the unsupported error. I'll have to give it some time and see what happens.
I don't know if this has anything to do with the issue, but the Model ID is different in this phone? The phone from Apple is model MC555LL/A. Prior ATT iPhone was model MC640LL/A. Might not mean anything, but I thought it was interesting.

Jan 30, 2013 7:55 AM in response to 2012FitFanby phoe1,sorry to rage but THIS IS NOT A FIX. its the worst kind of way to deal with this problem overall.
they give out new phones left and right instead of ******* fixing this problem! i m glad you can be happy again and continue with your life but a) people who dont have apple care DO NOT deserve their phones to be RUINED by a software update and b) its a huge WASTE of material/resources and time to just give people a new phone.
i m disgusted by this practice by apple, they just shove everything under a big rug - yea a lovely nice shiney, white rug - but still its just that.
luckily i was able to fix my problem (see my previous post) but this is simply outrageous practice by apple.

Take a chill pill brother. I was still under the 1 year warranty and the replacement is what Apple diagnosed. It has nothing to do with me going on with my life. Where did you get come up with that one? I understand your frustration, but thinking before you post in the future might be a good practice for you.

Jan 30, 2013 8:06 AM in response to 2012FitFanby phoe1,the reply - quite obviously - wasn't just regarding your issue. its just another example (if you read all the previous pages) of apple chicken out and just giving people new phones instead of fixing their flawed software updates or their crappy business model of releasing stuff thats not working properly yet (much like their horrible map service).

Jan 30, 2013 8:30 AM in response to JannieRatkeby mbkerk,I just got the notification that the udate to 6.1 is available for me to update.
In the description, the sound issues are not discussed.
I am not going to install the update until I see in this thread that it is doing something to resolve this issue.

Jan 30, 2013 9:11 AM in response to JannieRatkeby ConfectioneryDoppelganger,While reading through all the responses, I read that if you have an otterbox and remove and replace it, the sound works again... my sound worked for one text. Gone again. OH DEAR LORD

Jan 30, 2013 9:52 AM in response to JannieRatkeby miss1chriss,Ok, I'm pretty sure the sound problem is NOT associated with any apps disabling the sound. I deleted ALL my apps, and the sound problem still exists.
It goes off and comes back on randomly, even while typing a text.
The ONLY thing that makes sense to me is that it's the Gremlins doing this!
Holy cow Apple, get your act together and fix this!

Jan 30, 2013 11:39 AM in response to JannieRatkeby waffenschmiede,I've updated my 4S too.
Same issue no sound at all. And the phone doesn't response to the volume buttons...
So I tried to play music and saw only Dock Connector...
Problem solved, cause I've but a Cable with Dock connector in and shacked it a little bit. VIOLA no my 4S works with IOS 6.1 and sound.

Feb 1, 2013 11:46 AM in response to JannieRatkeby mtff,I have the same problem, very low sound and volume control is high. However it also seems that I can control the camera with my volume control buttons..ie take a picture as opposed to adjusting the sound...

Feb 1, 2013 12:21 PM in response to JannieRatkeby PlaceNarration,Bummer about 6.1 update. I was really hoping for a fix. Not writing with a nothing comment though... Wondering if anyone has attempted to send this to the power's that be at Apple already? Is there even an appropriate venue to share a wide-spread problem like this (that isn't about getting help to fix a singular person's issue?) They obviously aren't reading or able to keep track of these forums.

I've sent a link of this thread to Tim Cook's e-mail account. I've sent it via the Apple website as well. I've never received a reply. Not that I expected Tim Cook's office to reply.
On a side note, since the Apple store here in Atlanta swapped out my 3GS (under warranty), I haven't lost sound in three days. Loss of sound would happen like clockwork before the replacement. I'm still keeping my fingers cross that all is good now. I wouldn't be shocked if it happens again. since others have replaced units and the sound issue resurfaced.

Feb 2, 2013 8:23 AM in response to JannieRatkeby n.dagge,We all have the problem now over moth and no Fix from Apple also not on iOS 6.1.
Many user are loking for the reason of this problem.( No sound from Video Music or other App`s over the speaker, but ring tones are ok. )
I think it must be easy to c or any other should have the possibility to make an downgrade form the iOs to 5.?????.
If than the problem still exist it should be an hardware problem.
If not and this is my opinion the problem is Apple responsibility. Than Apple has with iOS 6.0 made this problem, and destroyed my iPhone 4. This all in the 24 warranty moth in Germany if Apple is also the dealer of the product. As in my case.
I Have Apple Support contacted but the problem is up to now not fixed.
Regards
N.Dagge
