If I bought a Macboo Pro, how easy would it be for me to be able to type letters in the German Alphaber that arent a part of the English alphabet. Theyre are four. I am going on exchange to Germany next year, so it is important for me so I can do homework (in German)

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities

It's easy. Just open System Preferences > Language and Text > Input Sources, and tick all the keyboard languages you want to use. Also, in this menu, you can activate the option to show Keyboard menu on menu bar, so you can change the keyboard language with two trackpad clicks

    - click your apple / system preferences / Language and Text

    - select the "input sources" tab, and ensure you check off "keyboard & Character viewer"

    - then scroll down, and select "German" in the input source list

    - now, in the top menu bar, click the flag icon

    - in the drop down window, select "show keyboard viewer", and then select the German flag

    - when you are typing, you can use the keyboard viewer, to get the "special characters".  As long as the german flag is showing in your top menu bar, your keyboard type german style

Even if you keep the US keyboard layout (which you may want to do, because Germans use QWERTZ instead of QWERTY), you can easily make the extra letters via

    a) option/alt key shortcuts.  option/alt + s =ß,  option/alt + u, then o = ö, etc.

    b) by just holding down the base letter and selecting the accented version you want from the popup menu that will appear.
