tooltips—those little floating yellow tags of explanatory text that appear when your mouse hovers over a button.
You can change the default settings through the terminal application.
You can slow them down from responding on mouse over, but you can not eliminate them.
By default, this value is set to 1,000 milliseconds (one second) for all applications.
Here is your fix -- from Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app
Open the terminal and
copy and paste:
defaults write -g NSInitialToolTipDelay -int 100000
of course hit the enter/return to execute the command
restart your computer for changes to take affect across the board, now there is a delay of 100 seconds.
Some software these tool tips are hard wired, and the commands need to be more specific.
To reverse this back to default setting , simply enter:
defaults delete -g NSInitialToolTipDelayMacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), 2.4GHz IntelCorei5 320GB HD 8GB RAM
