Good Morning Everyone

This problem has stumped me.  I had a system that was working fine for about 6 months.  We have the latest 27" iMac at home running on the home WiFi system that is using a Airport Extreme to connect to the internet, and I have a MacBook that I use around the house.  These two, plus the iPod Touch that we also have would connect and run fine over the system together, untill last night.

My wife was using the iMac watching a movie from Netflix, when I got home, and I went to open up my MacBook as normal, and as soon as I opened the MacBook, her connection on the iMac stopped and I have not been able to get it back online since.  This is just strange, I can use the internet fine with the iMac, but the MacBook is not having any of it.

I can open up Airport Utilities in the iMac, and it see's the Airport Express, and the green light is on, but the link to the internet is yellow, so I think that is the problem, but why can the MacBook connect via the same Airport Extreme and not the iMac?

Any idea's guy's?  I am not that techie, so basic very basic please.

Thanks

Pete

Since it is only the iMac that appears to be having difficulties, I would suggest taking a look at this Apple Support article to see if it can help you. Although it was written for OS X Lion, it still applys to Mountain Lion. Please post back your findings.

Also do you have an AirPort Extreme or Express or both? If you have multiple AirPorts how do you have the configured? That is, is one extending the range of the other or just being used for iTunes streaming/sharing a USB printer?

Thanks for your reply.  I have both an Airport Extreme, which my Netgear Router is plugged into for my internet connection and I also have an external drive running from this Airport.  I also have an Airport Express, just to plug my stereo into for iTunes playback.

Still not having any luck with getting the iMac online, but I am surfing the net super fast on the MacBook.  Just strange?

Just to make sure I understand. Is your Netgear your "main" Internet router? That is, is it connected directly to your Internet modem? ... or is it the AirPort Extreme performing this role? Regardless what is the model# of your Netgear router?

Thanks trying to help me, My system is set up like this, I am not sure it is the best way but it did work this way for well over a year OK.

I have the phone line going from the wall into the Netgear DG834PN, this used to be my only wireless connector, then I wanted an external wireless hard drive, so I got myself an Airport Extreme.  Now the Airport Extreme is connected to the Netgear DG834PN, and it is via this Airport Extreme that I normally connect to the internet.

I have the same problem, my MacBook is working without a hitch, I have Airport Philips speakers around the house that are working fine, everything is working well, apart from the iMac.

If your Netgear has both NAT & DHCP enabled (i.e., it is performing as a router), the AirPort Extreme should be reconfigured as a bridge. That way, any network client connected to either router would still be able to gain Internet access. Do you have the Extreme configured as a bridge?

Thanks for the reply, but I am still not able to connect my ipod touch the my home network.  It was working fine up until the time I opened up my MacBook and then we lost connection.

I am not sure if I should have the on the Newgear router set to NAT set to Enabled or Disabled?  What is the correct setting for this area?

And what about the Encapsulation setting what should that be on?

    Thanks again
