I have exactly the same problem. This morning my new iphone 5 (64 G.) was working without any problems - I was doing some work and left it on my table - suddenly it was turned of - and nothing seems to help. I have also tried DFU mode and get the same error messages
When i connect it to the power cable the Apple loge is blinking - but nothing happens when I push the buttons. When I disconnect it the appleloge turns off - but thephone is still completely dead
What to do?

If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service.

Nope - nothing seems to work - I have now tried two different computers (Macbook pro and a normal PC) - I have followed all the steps above - but the result remains the same - the phone does not work. What is really bothering me is, that I do not understand what has happened - if I just installed a new update or a new app it would make more sense.
But as I wrote - I used it when I got up this morning and everything was working fine, then suddenly after an hour it was and still is impossiple to start up
Thanks for the reply anyway :-)

Take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

i had the same issues as you - and following the steps for restoring the phone via iTunes - didn't work - i took it to the store today and since my phone was under warranty - they replaced it.
