This solution has been no help to me. I do see my iphone in iphoto.

Seeing it in iPhoto and seeing it in iTunes are two different things. Have you followed all the troubleshooting steps listed in the article?

Do you have the latest version of iTunes on your computer? iTunes 11 displays things differently from previous versions. Use the View menu to select View Sidebar to have your iTunes appear like in did in previous versions. Then connect your iPhone and see if it shows up in the left sidebar.
