You're going to need to explain better.

What have you done so far (leading up to the crash)

What type of Mac, are you using an external because your Mac did not come with an internal drive, or is it broken. Is this a retail Windows disc or one that you made.

There are many steps that you have left out if your description of events is all you did.

Read the Boot Camp directions, backup your machine and Start Again.

When you open Boot Camp Assistant this is the first page you see:

Can you see the big button near the bottom, on the left, with an arrow pointing at it?

That's the one you need to press.

If you have not made a current backup, do so before going any further at all.

And finally remember that Windows 8 is not supported by Boot Camp, so some things may not work anyhow.

I did this and followed all instructions and it still crashed. It gave me this really long error box.

Are you going to post the error here, I really am not interested in guessing.

Does your iMac have a Fusion Drive, or a 3TB HDD?

Please answer my question about the storage, do you have a 3TB drive or a Fusion Drive in your iMac.

So we arrive at the answer.

You can not install Windows in Boot Camp on a Fusion Drive, use a VM instead.

    You were wrongly informed.
