Same problem on iPod touch 5. Battery drains much faster

After performing the OTA Update to 6.1, my battery seemed fine. I set the alarms to wake me up. When I got up, I saw that the battery was sitting at 1%...while on the charger. I have tried charging it with different cables, electrical outlets, and couple of different computers; cleaned the ports using dust-off air spray; and the phone doesn't even hold a charge long enough to reset settings as it never gets above 1%.

I really miss iOS 5. I didn't have any of these issues. First wi-fi and now a dead battery. This is getting very tiresome.

I suggest a restore from your iTunes.

It doesn't hold a charge long enought to even reset the network settings while plugged in. The battery won't last long enought to do a restore or factory reset.

I'm experiencing the same problem. My new iPad 4 was able to run 2 hours light use (just browsing non-flash web pages) with battery from 100% to 90%. But I upgraded to ios6.1 and recharged whole night to 100%. Today morning I browsed only 52 minutes the battery became 85%. The back of this iPad is obviously hotter than before. Bad APPLE! I tried to restore to ios6.0.1 but the error 3194 can be solved with all online tips. I'M DISAPPOINTED TO APPLE!

Any suggestions how to roll back to ios6.0.1?

Seems as though it may be a defect, I'd take it to an Apple Retail store. If you still have your one year warranty you can request for a replacement.

    -Download the iOS 6.0.1 Software.

-Save the hosts file > open iTunes > select your iOS device from the sidebar. While holding the Shift on Windows or Alt on OS X key, select Restore and choose the firmware file which you wish to downgrade to (6.0.1)

    That should do it.

Thank you Zapelectrified for both suggestions. I tried everything but it's the same. This is a 2 months iPad 4 and I never do any modification (never jailbreak or so). Windows 7 with latest iTunes 11.0.1.12. I tried a few different iPad3,4_6.0.1_10A523_Restore.ipsw. hosts file is clean but keep getting the same error.

I googled online found many similar reports. What happened to Apple? If it wasn't such a big power drain change I can live with it. Also I found my Asphalt 7 game performance is significantly degraded. It barely can play but once a while it loses a few frames.

I will go apple store as you suggested.

The approach I used yesterday seems to have the phone in what I would call a "normal" state (ie: it no longer drains to 0% after 2 hours on standy).

1). shut down all apps ie:

    - double-click the home button to reveal the running apps

    - select a running app by holding your finger on it's icon until they all start to "shake"

    - shut each one down by touching the red "-" until there are no more icons in the task bar

2). Reset the network (which forces a reboot)

    - from the Settings "apps" select: General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings

    - this should force a restart of the device

Unfortunately i did all of these at once so I'm not sure which resolved my problem, but I now have something approaching a usable phone.

FWIW also upgraded my iPad Mini to 6.1 (glutton for punishment I know) and it's been fine (again, I had to shut down all apps as some kept crashing on startup until I killed off everything)

    YMMV

I'm terribly sorry RedBooster, Best of luck. I thought Apple would fix this battery problem that arose in iOS 6.0.2 for the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini, they should've analyzed the software in the 4th and 5th beta versions before releasing the Final version of iOS 6.1. Apple needs to step it's game soon..

Same with my iPhone 4s. Updated OTA yesterday. The phone sat unused for 3 hours on my desk, having been charged to 100% overnight. When I grabbed it to go to lunch, it was at 26% and was really hot! I cleared all apps in memory, chekced nothing was hooked into gps, and walked for half an hour to get lunch, listening to music - by the time I got back, 1% battery left! Needless to say, before this update my phone would last all day no problem. What a mess!

Finally, I am one of the lucky ones! While my iPhone 4s battery was draining almost as if it had a hole in it under iOS 6.0 and 6.0.1, with 6.1 I seem to be back the the long battery life I had under iOS 5.1. Not sure what Apple did, but for me it works.

Zap, I wanted to give you an update.

This has been an odd turn of events. I had another idea that I thought I'd try. In addition to turning off all signals (Cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth), I decided to turn on Airplane Mode. My phone was sitting at 1% when I started. In 4 minutes, it was at 100%. I have been using the phone to text and check email using my cellular data connection, and it seems to be holding a normal charge now. So, if this works, I'll be able to cancel my Genius Bar appointment for tomorrow morning.

Today: after a full charge over night, starting at 7am minimal usage (email, not on push, a few txts, calendar check etc) it is now 12.20, and I am on 17% battery
