Now that you know the problem how are u going to fix it?  Short of restoring as a new phone?

Since luckily it was only 2GB, I think I can live without that space for a month or so, so I will wait and see if Apple does include a clean up in the next update, and if not then I will probably restore and see if I can use iExplorer to save my App data.

I think we are all dreaming if we think apple is going to magically come up with a fix in a month. They didn't even have this issue as a fix noted in the release ;)

"I stumbled upon this little beauty "Settings/General/Usage/Music and then swipe left to right over the "All Music" entry and select Delete, then re-boot the iPhone." He stated, " you think it would delete all your music, but id doesn't" HOLY BALLS he was right, while for him it only cleared some MB's it cleared 2.3GB for me. I almost died."

This TOTALLY WORKED. thank you!!!!! Cleared 3.3 gigs in 10 seconds!

I'm struggling to beilive it worked. Disconnect your phone from the computer, shut it down and restart it, close out and restart iTunes, plug in your phone to the computer, start up iTunes, try a sync, is your other stil 3.3GB smaller?

Many of us that have tried that still have 4+gb OTHER.

I did exactly what you suggested to make sure that it worked ....and it did.

My phone is pretty music centric. I have 9 gigs of music data so maybe that is why it worked for me.

Glad to hear it worked for you, a lot of us have tried that to no avail, myself with 14 GB of music, 4.8GB of Other, stil have 4.6GB of Other withte music comptley wiped off the phone.

Congrats on the fix, be in prayer the rest of us can find our fix to.. ;-)

Trying iExplorer on a non-JB iPhone 5, did wisniak formula, again on a non JB phone, no joy.

    iPhone 5, 64gb, iOs6.01

    14.xGb music

    4.8Gb OTHER

Downloaded iExplorer, opened Media<iTunes Controller<Music, deleted all the F01-F5x, Synced phone to iTunes, (music was gone, Music sync box unchecked). Hard reset of phone, synced with music still "unchecked", OTHER is at 4.6GB. verified in iExplorere that all the F01 etc files are gone from the music folder.

My other must be in IMessage or photos?

I’m using the demo version of iExplorer on my MacBook Pro 15”, it wont let me see messages, that window is blank. Do I need to the purchased version for that? Searched their web site for info regarding demo vs paid, found nothing.

Also it crashed 3 times, will contact them regarding that.

    Downloading iOs 6.1 now...

You should be able to see them in the demo version, I'm not sure why you can't.  But actually the attachments can be seen in /Backups/Backup Explorer/Media Domain/Library/SMS/Attachment (you will need a local backup for this.)  You will be unable to delete them though (even in the paid version) without a JB.

And yea, the thing with the F files (and in my experience, also the Music swipe thing) is just a temporary "fix" if it works at all because it's not actually deleting "Other" storage, it just reports that you are because it doesn't know you have actually deleted Audio data.  (You aren't deleting the pointers/index to the songs, so they will still show in Music but when you try to play them it will just skip over the missing songs.)

    BRAAP

I tried my own method late last night and it did not clean up the Other.

I'm baffled, as it worked perfectly on my old JB 3GS over several iOS versions.

Now my 4S is not JB and I've not tried cleaning uo Other with this method before (on the 4S).

So maybe it only works on a JB device.

    Can someone try this please?

Check out iMobie's PhoneClean application... It actually does a pretty good job of cleaning up your phone, it even has a section for the "Other" section.
The only bad part is that it doesnt clean the SMS attachments yet.
    Hopefully soon.

    Hi everyone:

Just to be clear have you tried this?

"I stumbled upon this little beauty "Settings/General/Usage/Music and then swipe left to right over the "All Music" entry and select Delete, then re-boot the iPhone." He stated, " you think it would delete all your music, but id doesn't" HOLY BALLS he was right, while for him it only cleared some MB's it cleared 2.3GB for me. I almost died."

This TOTALLY WORKED. thank you!!!!! Cleared 3.3 gigs in 10 seconds!

My issue is with attachments, I've already verified this by browsing through my phone's storage. There's tons of old videos I took at concerts, with friends, etc.

    ZenDrummer,

Not trying to be mean, but did you read this thread? You will find that yes we have tried that, yes it worked for a few, very glad it worked for you, but most of us have other issues with OTHER as we are discussing, deleteing the music from the "Settings" section of our phone does NOT fix, nor does going into the phone registry via software on the computer and deleteing the music files that way.
