If you did not have to pay for this download ... or if you have the ability to disable it, disable or delete and see if things go back to normal. You can always re-install.
That you were talked into it though, suggests you paid for it.
You really don't need security software with your Mac.
It may be that the download requires more memory so this is another avenue to explore. With Lion you need at least 4GB.

You do not need AV/Security software on a Mac. If you search these groups there are many posts to this effect.
BTW, did you actually mean Intego?

Get rid of it! Unistall It! Your iMac doesn't need this! Most times AV software on the Mac does more harm than good.

I downloaded 'Integra' software to my machine a couple of days ago.
Never heard of it. I did stumble across Integra IT Solutions in Las Vegas who partnered with AVAST for A-V software. Or is it Intego as Chamar guessed?
I think you will find that any A-V software that runs a background process is going to slow your computer down. Effectiveness varies, but that's the price you must pay for added security.

Sorry everyone, I hould have said 'Intego' not Integra. I have since disabled the software and am back up to speed.
