Thank you for the offer, Dave! However, it turns out the same two files mentioned by Till can also be from a Mac running Snow Leopard (10.6.x), which I have access to. I copied these files over and presto--my mouse now works fine!
Once again, a big thanks to Till for this solution!
And BOO to Apple for leaving 10.7.5 users to fend for themselves.

I use several Macs. I tried Tills solution (via the Bezel Services), and after I put those mentioned files in the mentioned folder, the mouse worked as expected. This was with a MacPro and 10.7.5. Thanks so much, Till :-))
I also use a MacBook Air with 10.8.2., and today I checked the content of that BezelServices.LoginPlugin folder. And I saw, there is no such folder called "plugin" at all. With that MacBook I only work with the touchpad. I'll try my mouse here and if it doesn't work, I'll try to create a plugin folder and put those files in, and we will see what happens. More tomorrow!
Have a nice time

So here I am back again, trying to free Rich from sitting uncomfortably on the edge of his chair
I connected my mighty mouse to the MacBook Air - and I am sorry to say, the mouse works here as expected. Right click is possible with no change to my system..
What can we conclude? Maybe some additional information is of help. I use a gemany system, "about Mac" says 10.8.2 (12C3012). My Mac came with this system out of the box, no updates, no previous systems on it. Might here hide a difference?
Rich, do you see that folder "plugins" inside "BezelServices.LoginPlugin"? What does your folder show exactly?
Till, do you still have connections to the apple help line? Can you ask them, if 10.8.2. should show the same folders with the same names as 10.7.5? I could imagine, that in 10.8.2 the structure might have changed. If so, in which folder should those files be?
That's for today! Thomas

No problem 60wpm but I do not see your email on your profile page. Are you sure it's enabled under the privacy settings?
I have mine enabled so perhaps you can just click on my name while signed in and we can do it that way. I think it would be quicker to get them to you.

@Dave, thanks for your patience and attention to this.
I changed my privacy settings so Everyone can see email address.
To be sure, my email address is: email@example.com
(Besides mouse clicks, being aware of Privacy settings apparently another problem of mine)

As already said by several others but I want to also say it: "YES!!! That worked. I was missing those two files and I copied them from an older version of Lion and restarted. I have my right click on my mouse again in Lion 10.7.5. Till von Reumont -- and Dfhuges -- thank you so much."
I happen to notice, btw, that both of you are only officially Level 1 (0 points) members of the forum - but IN FACT you're an example of the Best of Apple Forum, helping people out, solving problems.
Over the years this forum has been a tremendous assest to me as I've stumbled from one issue to the next: absolutely invaluable or my computer would be long dead and my plug-ins and addons would all be mismatched, my apps asking questions or having demands I couldn't solve, etc. -- this is like having an extra right-hand (for righteys).
Sometimes I've noticed too, alas, there are also @#$#$@#$ here, as in the rest of the world, running folks around in circles or just jerking people off for their own amusement. And how they get their high rating must be some gamer conspiracy of some sort.
So it is very REFRESHING, again, to have proven and demonstrated clear solutions -- and even be sent the files to fix the problem!
Thanks again to you both. You should get an 'Apple medal,' or something because it really is a nice, simple and clear example of 'The Best of Apple Forum.' and such a worldwide evolving library of knowledge and problem-solving is of great benefit to us all....um, Amen.

I agree with 60wpm in every word and I go along with him saying thanks!
A question to all of you: if I placed those files in my dropbox, and I place the link here - would you see that as a violation of APPLE's rights? In other words: can I take this risk, or do I have to expect legal proceedings from APPLE against me? Any lawyers around here?
