I agree that this is a bit dumb
If I get links sent from eBay or youtube, it opens a page in Safari that asks if I want to open this in the relevant App that I already have installed.
If it's asking that, why doesn't it just open it in that app?

The link has to have a URL scheme that will launch the app, & this requires that the app be installed, or the link won't work at all. So, the ability is there, but it requires the link to have the correct scheme.

Does that mean that the app creater has to make sure the URL scheme is set up to be opened in the app? This is not something I can do myself, correct?

So what about google+ from safari or facebook or anything? Your suggestion works only for email links i think. I would like to open google plus when i click the g+ button in a page in safari. That doesnt work. Any siggestions?
