Non repeating failure for me. Sometime it does, sometimes it doesn't. Very stupid.

Suffering same pain as others in this thread.    At least will say a thanks for the CrossFade suggestion....by turning off that functionality, iTunes 11 seems to now be incrementing the Play Count and updated the Last Played field....obviously at the loss of the cross fade function.

    Better luck next time Apple!

yeah crossfade off helps, but I have had some songs having to keep deleting their play counts. last playeduncertain, have paid less atn. to that aspect. Some songs have lost heir play count multiple times w/o an actual pattern as to why, and then suddenly a whole bunch new songs will also appear/re-appear w/out counts. Minor problem in a way, but quite annoying and ridiculous that the developers would create such an error, and find it so difficult to make a fix. It's sad Apple had such a Great reputation and seems to be de-evolving.

Yep, found this and jumped on.

After refusing iTunes 11 for a while, I finally updated today. Bad decision, as I know now. I stumpled directly over this issue. I mainly play music from an intelligent playlist based on what I have not played the last month. Crossfading is always on. No option to turn it off. It has ever worked and never was an issue. I like it.

To ease up things, I restored from TimeMachine.

Since the Lions occured, so much software issues raised. I guess SnowLeo and MoblieMe was the climax with Apple products.

So, here is another one waiting for a fix (beside several other fixes I am waiting for) ...

Come-on Apple, it's only supposed to Microsoft who release new bugs with each new update. Get yourself straightened up and back to releasing good stuff that's less complex but more functional than competition. It's how you dug yourself out of a hole in the 90's.

Turning off crossfade did work for me though.

I'm having an issue where when I listen to the song on iTunes, my play count updates. But if i listen to it on my iphone, it doesn't update the playcount from there.  My crossfade is off.  This is very frustrating. Apple needs to come out with an update fast. I wist there was a way to downgrade back to iTunes 10.  Even after getting used to it, I still do not like the new update.

There is a way to downgrade to iTunes10. I have done it several times due to probs and no-likes with iTunes11. Basicly its a clean uninstall from iTunes11 and a re-install of iTunes10. I am not sure whether you can get your old iTunes10 Library out of the iTunes11 Library, but I think there was a way. I always restored the iTunes10-Library from my BackUps.

I am sure even this thread contain all the details. Otherwise, its rather easy to find the instruction with google.

    Yep, greetz from Germany

Regarding Play Counts, does anyone know if prior to iTunes 11, did tracks played on an Apple TV register under Play Count & Last played?

I've reported the Crossfade bug to Apple but I'm unsure about Apple TV.

    Thanks.

I discovered another variant.   Sometimes I listen to iTunes remotely using Airport Express.   With cross-fade on, playcounts were updated.   When I went back to hard-wired connection, playcounts stopped updating until I turned cross-fade off, closed out of iTunes, then restarted.

I've decided I like to be able to turn playcount on and off depending on what and when I am listening.   But I'd like to see it work as a preference setting without turning off cross-fade.   Any word from Apple of a fix?

I have been experiencing the lost play count since upgrading to iTunes11.  I have a couple of intelligent playlists based on number of plays, so that I can find music I may not have played in a while or not at all.  With each ver.11 upgrade, the number of tunes in my "no play" playlist changes, increasing by hundreds of songs.  I have twice, played all of the songs in the new "cache" when this has happened.  But with each upgrade, iTunes places a hundred different songs back in that playlist.  There is no rhyme or reason to it.  Some songs I have purchased through iTunes, some not.  It shows the last date played, but zero in the play count.  I have never used the cross fade preference, so that is not the problem.  I thought playing the songs again would update the play count.  Tht seemed to work.  But today, I played all of the songs that had no play count.  When I synced this evening, several of them that I know I played today still have no play count.  This really is annoying.  When is Apple going to acknowledge, respond and fix this bug.

I am also experiencing the same thing. I didn't upgrade to version 11 for a long time and now it's driving me CRAZY. The last album I purchased on iTunes I listened to a few times on my computer and then a few times on my iPod. There were no problems updating the play count and last played columns on my computer. Last time I plugged in my iPod Nano, that album had no play counts or last played dates even though I had been listening to it almost nonstop. I went through and added a play to each song, ejected my iPod, then plugged in back in, and the play counts finally showed up. Now that same album is showing the last played date in my iTunes, but every song is showing zero play counts. I do not have crossfade on, so that won't help me. I really hope Apple can sort this out soon. I don't make playlists from that information but I like keeping track of how much I listen to my music.

I have experienced the no update and the reset problem but here is a new one.  At least I don't recall having seen it.

I have my music on an HD attached to a Mac Mini that I access using sharing.  When the sharing screen is displayed, iTunes usually counts, but of course not always.  When it isn't, it doesn't!  How does it know what screen is on top?

I have seen many answers regarding the update last song played issue.  But none for the cover flow issue.  I seriously miss that bottom left corner cover........... anyone with an answer?   Is apple gonna fix this bug soon?

You can restore the art for the current playing track by clicking on the album art icon within the playing window at the top...the one showing track title, playing time and elapsed time etc.

Gary Rosenzweig at Macmost explains options fully here: http://macmost.com/itunes-11-miniplayer-and-movie-window.html

You can then use it as a mini player and drag it to whichever point on the screen you wish. Hope this helps.
