Jan 31, 2013 3:51 PM in response to thecucuzzaby turingtest2,I could prossibly write a script to do that. Iterating through selected tracks, noting which have art, and what format the art is in is easy enough. I'd have to some research to see how to decipher the image size however. It might require saving the image and accessing the properties of the saved file... And I've just found a way to do that so looking good.
What do you plan to do with the data? There could be multiple images and there might be some other properties that it might be useful to be aware of, such as embedded or not, description (mp3 only). I could write the data out to a text file or insert it into an unused text field.

Jan 31, 2013 4:48 PM in response to turingtest2by thecucuzza,That would be amazing if you could write a script for that! Will it work on a PC? I don't have a Mac, I only have a PC.
I'm planning to make my entire library uniform with artwork size. I have multiple sizes and it sometimes displays differently on my ipod and other devices (which I am not a fan of). It would be great if I could import it into Excel so I can sort on the sizes, but if it outputs it to a text file, I'm sure I can work some magic in the spreadsheet to get what I need.
The additional properties that the script would tell you such as if there are mutliple images, embedded or not, etc. I would be much appreciative for this help!!! Thank you.

Jan 31, 2013 5:07 PM in response to thecucuzzaby turingtest2,Hmm, a CSV file for Excel import then...
How about?
AlbumArtist, Album, Disc, Track, Name, Count, Index, Embedded, Format, Width, Height, Description
Tracks with mutiple images would show with a count>1 and have multiple rows each with a different index number.

Jan 31, 2013 5:24 PM in response to turingtest2by thecucuzza,That would be beautiful! I can't wait to test this out as my library as 35k+ tracks

Jan 31, 2013 5:27 PM in response to turingtest2by thecucuzza,Also, it would be great if you could leave instructions on how to use the script. I never really used scripts with itunes before... will this be an executeable or something?

Jan 31, 2013 6:01 PM in response to thecucuzzaby turingtest2,OK, I'm on the case but it is 2am here so it's probably time I turned in. I've checked I can get the dimensions from a saved image file and write an Excel readable CSV file. I just need to put the whole thing together in a tidy fashion. Not sure how much time I'll get to work on it over the next day or so but give me a nudge on Sunday if it isn't done by then.
See my scripts page for a selection of scripts and the general operating instuctions.

Feb 1, 2013 5:30 AM in response to turingtest2by thecucuzza,OK... I really look forward to using this script! Let me know when you complete it.
Another question... this doesn't really affect me, but I notice something weird and it's sometimes bothersome. Did you ever edit the tag of a track's volume to 100% and do it on a track by track basis and it's fine when you browse the tracks individually, but when you select as a group and edit the tag, the volume bar looked like you never adjusted it... What do you do in that situation? Does that truly mean not all tracks' volumes have been adjusted?

Feb 1, 2013 7:18 AM in response to thecucuzzaby turingtest2,When you select multiple items and Get Info. iTunes will normally display any values that are the same for all items, or show a blank box. However there are some exceptions, for instance artwork isn't shown and binary values usually show up as No even when there is a mix. My guess (without having the time to confirm just now) is that the volume slider is there to allow you to set a new value, but always shows up initially as 0 regardless of the settings.

Feb 4, 2013 2:37 PM in response to thecucuzzaby turingtest2,Ding! Fresh out of the oven and available as ExportCSV.
I've added one more column Square to save creating a formula and then replicating that down the spreadsheet. Current properties are:
AlbumArtist, Album, Disc, Track, Name, Count, Index, Embedded, Format, Width, Height, Square, Description
More could be added if needed...
Haven't managed to find/create a test file with .bmp format or an artwork description as yet, but it should work as planned.

Any ideas?

Feb 5, 2013 6:07 AM in response to thecucuzzaby turingtest2,Annoyingly these error messages don't really pinpoint where in the line the problem occurs. Either the problem is that the picture object hasn't loaded properly, so its properties are not avaiable, or reading the description of the artwork object is causing a problem. I'll have to see if I can wrap some error trapping code around things to make sure that the saved image exists before trying to access its properties and deal properly with an error if it still occurs. Be easier if I could replicate the problem but I haven't seen it so far.

Feb 5, 2013 7:19 AM in response to turingtest2by thecucuzza,Understood... If it's a couple of issues that cause this, it'd be fine to pinpoint. The problem is, the script stops working at the first error, instead of skipping the error(s) and continuing on until the end of the library. At any rate, thank you for the script, I'll await an update once you have one. Thanks so much for your help thus far.
