My iPhone 5 a few days ago was running iOS 6.0.1. I was rather skeptical of updating it all this while after hearing many tragic battery life stories on iOS 6.0.2 and since my battery life wasn't that great, I thought it'd be a good idea to steer clear of causing further mishap to my battery life. When iOS 6.1 came out, I did some research about the battery life on that firmware version and got mixed stories about battery life. I took the decision to leave it be for the moment.
Just 2 days back, I discovered from certain other users that if you back up all your data, restore your phone, let the charge run out out and then charge it completely, the battery life took the turn for the better. Since I was restoring my phone, iTunes automatically updated my phone to iOS 6.1. I didn't want it to be updated actually, but it did no damage as what I thought it would.
Now my battery life is better than before. When I left it idling overnight, it used to lose about 5-7% percent. Now, it just loses 2-3% or sometimes even 1! I think it's the restore option which really rejuvenates the phone
