So I was testing out Messages in ML and I saw something that just didn't look right.

How does one get a -1 new message?

When you opened it up what did it look like?

    Hi,

I would try a PRAM reset as the first step.

    Shut down the computer.

Restart it holding down Apple/CMD ( or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.

If this does not sort it we can tell you how to remove the com.apple.imessages.bag.plist that holds the info about Unread chats.

(The "Sync" process between iPhones (or other iOS device) and the Mac version of Messages does not include following the actions of the the device. IT is more "Display on all devices" rather then keep all devices showing the same thing, as in dismissed chats and replies)

    Hi,

It happens but it is not that common.

Because it is not that common I can't say I have tracked down a specific cause yet.
