The side switch of my iPad2 has stopped working for no apparent reason. It won't lock rotation or mute the device, no matter what function I select for it. I have try setting both in Settings, neither work. I am aware that I can lock rotation by double tapping the home button and right swiping, but I'd still like to get the side switch working. My product is no longer under warranty. How can I test to know if it's a hardware or software problem?
