Make sure you're entering in both the user name and key code exactly as in the email Apple sent you. Any error in either, including leaving off a salutation (for instance, if the email says "Mr. John Smith") will cause the registration to error.
Also make sure you purchased a key for the correct platform (Windows or Mac). QuickTime keys are not cross-platform.

please don't do that... YES IT _IS_ for Mac OS X, Yes I entered my name EXACTLY as it is in the email, and before you ask YES the key is typed in EXACTLY as it was in both the email and the receipt.
now, do you have any CONSTRUCTIVE suggestions?

Nope. I don't bother with people who get snotty when someone makes perfectly reasonable suggestions. Good luck getting further help with your attitude.

since you weren't any help at all this is no great loss. if i wanted the obvious i would still be using Micro$lop.

I suggest using copy/paste from the email confirmation to the registrations fields.

before this goes any further. i realize what happens when people assume. one thing i find most exasperating is having people unintentionally insulting my intelligence. note that i said UNINTENTIONALLY! can we then assume that i have tried all the onbvious things?
to be brief, yes. i have cut, pasted, spindled, folded, and mutilated from both the email receipt AND the copy i made of the online receipt. i have checked the two receipts against each other to insure the names & numbers are the same.
