Paul I took responsibility for not backing it up; likely the problem is reading comprehension, Id have expected more from an aggie. My complaint is that, its as if I bought life insurance for my family and the insurance company killed them and Im supposed to say ****, thank God I had insurance. Point is icloud didnt back up what settings scrubbed - its almost as if Apple is saying **** if you had icloud you would have been backed up. I was on icloud am on icloud but wont rely on it again - Ive gone to seagate GO FLEX home.

Kilt and Paul, Most of the time spend with apple on the phone was allowing them to go through the motions to find out if I was synced to the cloud. I was, they agree that I was. This can not be an isolated incident, im going to sit back and see how many more manifest over the next 24 hours.

Were you actually syncing your contacts with iCloud? I'm guessing you were not. You were just backing up to iCloud.
Contacts are intended to be synced with a compatible cloud service or contact manager, as I've already stated.
I don't know what "problem" you're talking about that has been "happening since Aug 12".
The "problem" is that you updated you phone without ever having actually synced your contacts with anything. The If you would have actually turned on iCloud contact sync, you wouldn't have had this problem.
I don't know how you expect "seagate" to save you... unless they have a contact sync service that I don't know about.

Tha't the problem, you're complaining which will get you nowhere. Nobody likes a complainer, especially one that goes on and on about it. AFAIK, the iCloud backup doesn't back up contacts at all, that's what iCloud sync is for.
And my reading comprehension is fine, especially between the lines.
