I am a student and all my PowerPoint lectures are sent to me before they begin.  I take those lectures put them into keynote then open them in notability as a PDF.  This allows me to record the audio of the lecture and take notes directly on the slides.  However, some teachers use dark or colourful backgrounds that make annotating them a bit frustrating.  I want to remove the backgrounds in the same way I could if I selected print "With Backgrounds: off"

Is there a way to either delete the backgrounds or print to PDF without the backgrounds?

Thanks

Just as you say you can print to a PDF file:

file print > options: then  select;    dont print slide backgrounds

there are further options on what to print:

    slides only

    slides with notes

    outline

    handouts

Sorry if I wasn't clear.  I do not want to print the slides, I want them in a PDF format without the background.

I want the PDF to look the same as if I had selected print with background off.  On my mac I can select print to PDF but there is no such option on the iPad (I think?).

Is there no way to remove the background without printing a hard copy?

Yes you said in your first post you wanted a PDF without background.

What has this got to do with an iPad, you asked about producing a PDF file?

As I suggested,    File > Print > PDF    will produce a PDF file without the background if you select the "don't print slide backgrounds" option in the print dialogue box.

This is a popular straight forward procedure and is easily achieved.

From what I can tell and what I've read, you cannot get rid of the slide backgrounds in the iOS version other than by printing (which is not what you are looking to do) or copy/pasting all content to a new presentation that has a white background theme (which would be painful if there are a lot of slides).

I think you must be speaking about a different version of keynote.  In IOS there is no File> Print, there is a Share and Print> Print> Next> Select Printer.  There is no option to print to PDF and I can not go any further without selecting a printer.

Currently I use the "Open in Another App" feature but that does not give any option to remove the background.

I was hoping there was something I was missing but it looks like Badunit may be right.  There may not be a way apart from the copy/paste (which is not an option as there are way too many slides).

You posted your query in the Keynote for Mac discussion and I therefore have to assume you were asking about the Mac application.

As you now state you are using Keynote for iOS, which is a very different application.

You should post your query in the iWork for iOS discussion where you will get responce's from users who use that hardware.

I have no knowledge of iOS devices so I cant help you further.

good luck and I hope you get this resolved.

Over on the Numbers forum people are often posting questions about the iOS version of Numbers. We just answer the question if we can. It's usually easy to tell from the post that the question is about iOS, like in this case where the OP's initial post mentioned "With Backgrounds: Off" ("Off" is an iOS thing) and Notability (an iPad app).

It would be good for the OP to ask the question in the iWork for iOS forum, though, as you advised. They may know more there.

Sorry for wasting your time guys.  I have now asked to question in the correct area.

    I appreciate both your efforts.
